Will the GLC63 Appreciate over time being the last V8 in this class?

I know the c63 has been selling at a premium and has a heritage with it but do you think the GLC63 will also retain its value now (or increase) that no more V8s are being made for the time being? And probably discontinued for the GLC63 so it’s the last year to get the GLC in a v8 ? Have been seeing huge dealer markups on these cars when you call around. Also, some are coming with missing standard options and burmester surround systems due to the semi conductor shortage.

It very well may be. Glad to have landed my 19 this year and have a suspicion the 63 will become a collector's vehicle.

Too early to tell. GLC is a mass produced platform and model, far from rare. V8 will certainly help in retaining value or curbing depreciation. If you want appreciation, get a G or E63 wagon. These are far more exclusive and harder to get.

Not going to appreciate but will certainly retain more value than it might otherwise would since we know now it's one of the last V8 compact SUVs that will ever be made. I leased my '19 and loved the car, but after learning how terrible AMGs lease I vowed I would go a more affordable route in '22. However I'm now seriously considering buying out the GLC63 and just riding it into the ground over time. It's been 100% reliable so I'm crossing my fingers against any spectacular repair bills. Model Y is the only other serious contender but it doesn't lease great either, and I still think electric needs 5 more years to bake.

Just secured a 2020 GLC 63S this morning. Have been searching for 3 months and the perfect build came available
I think these will hold value compared to other vehicles but certainly not expecting it to appreciate. The V8 alone will make it more sought after on the 2nd hand market in the coming years

Mercedes Benz AMG GLC 63s
Probably not for several reasons and if only due to the really bad tire juddering when turning tight or semi-tight turns. Here in Japan for example, there are many 2020 and below models for sale new/used, for that reason alone. Tires are mad expensive here with few people willing to spend thousands of dollars on such items more often than what would normally be needed, especially from unexpected and unnecessary tire wear.

Myself…well, I’m basically an idiot and a victim of Coupe’s with a beautiful V8 soundtracks. 😜😂👍

Who's to say what the car market will look like when my lease on my 2020 63 expires in September 2023, but if it's anything like today, I'll probably buy it out and then sell it separately. The car certainly won't appreciate but I suspect its depreciation curve will not be as steep. The freeze on AMG V8s in the states, if nothing else, will result in less used inventory available in coming years. It's definitely put a crimp into my plan of driving my GLC until the lease expires and then getting back into a 63 wagon, preferably used. And I can definitely vouch for the flat-ish depreciation curve of the 63 wagon, when I sold my 2014 in 2020 there wasn't much of a hit at all.

Those cars were aspirational for people who grew up in the 90/2000's. Besides the fact that car culture is dead to this generation of kids, they're not aspiring to own a SUV over a sport car like a AMG GT series or C63s coupe

Comparing an old NSX to this situation is apples and oranges, maybe even apples and watermelons, the difference is huge. Even though AMG is putting out awesome cars, none of them are the seismic shift or carried the widespread "wow" factor that the NSX was/had back in the 1990s.

Getting back to the original question, One of MB's top sellers, if not the top seller, worldwide is the GLC300. No doubt the 63 is somewhat unique, but is it really THAT unique? Contrast that with the 63 wagon. In 2014 there were approximately 150 63 wagons brought into the US the entire year. In that situation you have a wagon, which is clearly very rare in the US, and you add the AMG factor, including the price, and now it gets uber rare. My 2014 stickered for ~$105K. How many people are going to pay $105K for a wagon? On the opposite side you have a GLC63. Consider the "tree" of both BMW and MB:

BMW 3 series - 330/M340/M3
BMW 5 series - 530/540/M550/M5
BMW X5 - 40/M50/M
GLC - 300/43/63
GLE - 350/450/580/53/63s

In each case there are readily available alternatives. With the exception of the M3 (and probably the M5), as you get higher in the tree the number of cars available falls significantly with the GLE63s probably at the top of the "rare" list out of the five I listed. But, even though they might be rare, they're not unobtainium like a well-sorted and maintained NSX or an M1, and they're not a quantum shift (vs. the overall marketplace) like a 63 wagon is in the US.

I strongly believe that the depreciation curve is flatter with the V8 freeze. Even if AMG availability improves next year and they bring back the V8s, that still means a whole year has been lost in the used market, which is why my plan of getting a used 21 or 22 63 wagon in 2023 likely got blown to smithereens - there will simply not be enough 63 wagons over here that I'd want to own (vs. the wagon that's been tracked, hit, etc.).

The residual on my 63 is ~$40K. I would be shocked if you can find a well-maintained GLC63 for that price come the summer of 2023, which is why I'll probably buy it out and sell it myself. I'm already considering my alternatives, which will probably be an RS6 Avant, X5M, maybe an M3.

Just to clarify, did MB say they are killing the V8 for GLC as well (i know the c63 is discontinued) or just postponing it? I cant recall if they were going to go GLC v4 turbo like the new upcoming c63.

Im not really into arguing but GLC 63 is indeed unique as no any other brand offers anything like that with V8 craziness stuffed in it and say AMG Hammer is a living legend of NSX era and caliber, totally different class and purpose but nevertheless it became a cult classic with collectors price tag on em.

Agree that there really is no small SUV w/ a V8 out there, nor would I say there's a small, performance SUV that even compares. I drove an X3 M before buying my 63 and it couldn't have been more blah - felt like a lot of badging and settings and not visceral enough vs. the raw power of the 63. But is that uniqueness enough to cause the car to appreciate? Maybe years down the road after settling against a depreciation curve, but who knows. The only real example I'd give of mass-market cars that appreciate over time, or at a minimum carry large resale values vs. original MSRP, are BMW e39 M5s (and I miss mine, but that's another story.....). If you want to be wowed, check out the prices EAG asks, and frankly gets, for very well-sorted M5s. https://enthusiastauto.com/bmw/m5series/e39-m5.html
