sound from the Burmester system is missing

I lost all sound on my audio system on my GLC220 withh Burmester audio system, then, after a few weeks, the Radio, CD and Maps lost all sound, returned a few weeks later then lost again. Then, after a week it went again and is still not working,
  1. Only the sound from the Burmester system is missing!
  2. CD player reads the disc but will not play any tracks!
  3. Audio/COMAND display and Audio/COMAND control panel Touchpad are working normally.
  4. Feedback sounds on start-up can be heard!
  5. Replaced all associated fuses: 423, 461, 462 with no effect.
Could be a software issue?
I would like to find the amplifier module and check the connections and see if there has been any water ingress but where is it?

Location of amp and header unit

I searched for mercedes GLC Burmester Amplifier on Google. The amp is huge... about the size of DVD player and it is located in the boot/trunk, under the mat on the right hand side. This unit could be susceptible to water ingress but I can't see any. Power comes from a fuse in the nearby fuse-panel... possibly 423 and 462?

The system is driven from a "header" unit that is strapped to the CD Player in the dash. There are 2 fibre-optic cables that connect this unit to the amp in the boot. My guess is that the header unit may be OK as satnav, bluetooth, etc. all work perfectly. Power comes from a fuse in the nearby fuse-panel down the side of the footwell... possibly MF2/2?

I am not sure what to try next! How to test the fibre-optics and should I remove the amp in the boot and have a closer look?

I have added a pic of the back of the header. The fibre-optic cables are the pink ones on the right.

Case Closed?

No doubt about what stopped this amplifier from working! It got wet because some stupid focker decided to mount it under the rear tail light.
It reminds me of the control unit that MB mounted in a similar place on the SLK, resulting in the same disaster... that was 20 years earlier so why didn't they learn from their mistake?

Ouch, do I dare ask how much that module costs? Availability?

Cost of a Burmester amp

I found one for £190 on ebay but there were others costing more. I did not consider a brand new one.

what really concerns me is how it became soaked in water and is there a mod that can avoid water ingress?

for reference, I faced the same issue with water getting into the amplifier, bought one on eBay, and it worked without any re-programming.

I did a close inspection of the rear offside wing, light cluster, etc. and I came to the conclusion that the water entered via the boot/trunk... "someone" spilt water on the boot floor and it ran down the side of the floor and straight into the amplifier. It was probably at a boot sale and a cup of liquid was knocked over while it was innocently parked on the boot floor.
