Tire size help on '20 GLC 43
I have a somewhat unusual decision to make in regards to my new (to me) 2020 GLC 43. The car has the driver package and therefore comes with the 21” wheels. When I purchased the car, winter tires were included. After taking a closer look, I found that the winter tires don’t match. What I received is as follows:
3x 265/40/R21/105V
1x 255/40/R21/102V
In either case, they are Pirelli Scorpion winter tires. Additionally, the 3x 265s are all more worn than the singular 255, which looks like it was used for one season max.
The wheels are staggered: 8.5” in the front with 9.5” in the rear. Based on research, 265 tires will fit on both the front and rear wheels.
I am wondering what the best solution here is to minimize the diameter difference and keep it within the tolerable range. According to my calcs, we should be within 1%, which I understand is OK for 4matic.
Would it be best to purchase an additional 255 or an additional 265? I am thinking an additional 255 makes sense to just run a staggered setup – 255 in front, 265 in rear. Additionally, since the 255 I do have is almost new anyway, this would minimize diameter difference on the front axle. This way I also retain a spare 265 for the rears just in case… On the flip side, having all 4 tires be the exact same makes a certain amount of sense as well, except for the fact that the 3 tires I already have have a couple of seasons worth of wear on them.
I’m new to the car world so very happy to hear from someone more experienced if possible. Cheers!
