Is there a way to find out who Tuned a car....
A buddy of mine bought a 2021 C63s out of Texas and had it shipped to CA; car is really clean, clean title and 40K miles on the dial. Yesterday he tried to smog it and it didn't pass. He was told the reason the car didn't pass was because it has a software update.
So now my buddy doesn't know what to do. He did plan on eventually having it tuned but was waiting to get it fully registered. The plan was to get a tune he can remove and put back on when he needed to get it smogged (I do that with my C400). He tried to reach out to the private dealership that sold it to him, but they said they have no idea about any programing. He doesn't mind having the tune, but would at least want to know what was done to it or who it was tuned by. I'm not sure if there is a way to remove the tune so he can smog it? My thought is that he needs to re-tune with a removable tune. Since know his car didn't pass smog, will he be sent to a state ref or would he be able to drive to any local shop.
