2020 GLE 53
I have searched at length for info on a possible release date. Does anyone know anything? There have been spy photos and info leaked so one could assume it’s coming soon. But it may also take longer to dial in the new technology.
Audi has a similar Bosch 48 volt electric turbo setup being tested as the future SQ8 but Audi dealers don’t expect them until late 2019.
I would wait to order a GLE450 if it was only a month or two longer to learn more about it. I don’t want buyers remorse but am ready to buy so???

I think I ha m answer. The AMG 53 version won’t have the Bosch electric supercharger. It will have a bi-turbo and mild hybrid like the 450...429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque.

GL 53 engine
"It's been 19 years since Mercedes sold an inline-six in the United States. but that ends with the introduction of the 3.Q-liter M256 found in the 362-hp CLS450 and the 429-hp AMG CLS53. The M256 will also appear across the E-c1ass line and in the AMG GT53 4-Door. Inline-sixes are smoother than V-6s and Mercedes knows this. but manufacturing efficiencies are the biggest factors behind the switch. Because the M256 is part of an engine family that shares the position of its transmission mounting flange, those engines can be mounted in the same position in various models, saving manufacturing costs.
Both Mercedes' and AMG's versions of the engine use a twin-scroll turbo and are assisted by a Zl-hp, 184-lb-ft motor-generator, which supplies power to and receives it from a 48-volt electrical system. The motor, housed between the engine and transmission, adds motive force to the powertrain, recharges the battery via regenerative braking, and restarts the engine while sailing and after stop-start events. A O.9-kWh battery stores the juice for both versions of the engine. The higher-power M256 adds an electric supercharger capable of 6.6 pounds of boost downstream of the turbo. With the electric compressor handling transient-response duties, Mercedes optimized the turbo on the AMG engine for power at higher engine speeds."

Where did you see that? Doesn't sound right. This is what was released on the engines in the CLS, and I'm 100% sure the GLE gets the same two engines:

The GLE53 will get the same engine (I6) setup as the CLS53 and E53 models. Same engine as the European S500. There is no delay with the tech or anything, the CLS and E53 models are already sitting at the ports waiting to be released with the SAME ENGINE AS THE GLE53. Why come up with issues or problems when non exists? The regular GLE 450 was just introduced, the AMG model is usually about 6-8 months after that.

GLE 53 availability
I think you will find the performance of the GLE 450 will be just about on par with the current GLE 43, and they are available to order now (delivery in Feb.-Mar.). With the AMG Line exterior you will not be able to tell much difference from the forthcoming 53.

Building GLE 450 customer orders starting in February with delivery March and April.
Announce the GLE 53 in Feb-Mar.
Start production in April or May with Availability July to August.
I think it’s later rather than sooner because there have been no Press leaks and Dealers don’t have any info yet-the 450 timeline was known and leaked months ago. But until Mercedes starts talking opinions are not worth much at this point.

It hasn’t been announced so it could easily be 6 months from now, maybe longer. I wanted one but gave up and ordered a 450. My logic for timing of the 53 is as follows:

Announce the GLE 53 in Feb-Mar.
Start production in April or May with Availability July to August.
I think it’s later rather than sooner because there have been no Press leaks and Dealers don’t have any info yet-the 450 timeline was known and leaked months ago. But until Mercedes starts talking opinions are not worth much at this point.
Thanks

Greg has a neat spreadsheet with most of the options priced at MSRP. I think everyone that ordered is doing so at MSRP-%. Those numbers probably vary and most don’t disclose. I got a very good deal but agreed not to disclose it. There is one post on Greg’s thread with the price at 7% off MSRP. That would probably be the best price out there.
My config comes in at a little over $86000 based on a few estimates but I am probably going to change the $8100 E-ABC to just air suspension $1610. That will knock it down to the low 80’s.

If this article is correct we have a long wait for the GLE 53.
https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...oupe-spy-shots
The redesigned GLE Coupe is due for a reveal in early 2019 and on sale later that year as a 2020 model. This GLE53 variant should trail it by about six months to a year. And further out, a plug-in hybrid option will join the fold.

Mercedes has a big introduction at the NYC auto show in April, it could be either the GLE53 or the new GLS. There is just no way of knowing yet. Mercedes is introducing the new CLA at CES next month since they WON'T be at the Detroit auto show next month.
