I must have a brain fart because for the life of me I can't figure out how to save and name a destination for future recall. On my 2016 C300, I was able to save a destination and give it a name (example; ikea or bestbuy, etc.) and I was able to categorize them as shopping. On my new GLE, it only gives me the option to save as work, home and as favorite but does not give me the option to give it a name.
Thanks in advance for everyone helping in my state of confusion.
Took ex-lax so gas went away and found the answer to my own question.
Basically for those who want to know, you have to go to favorites (press star button on console) then see your favorites there, tap and hold then option to rename comes up. Hope this helps.
Here's another navigation question. I just got my GLE580 2 days ago and while loading some of my navigation favorites, I ran into a problem concerning the number of favorites that can be saved. After inputting about 15 of them I received a message that I had reached the maximum and if I wanted to save more I would have to delete one that I already saved. On my 2013 ML550 I seemed to have the ability of saving an unlimited number of favorites. I believe that I had stored at least 75. Am I doing something wrong or is there a way to save more favorites that I am just not aware of?

A quick glance of the online owner's manual didn't reveal the maximum, but for the latest COMAND (NTG 5.5, predecessor to MBUX), the limit is 20 global favorites, so probably the same for MBUX. Given the UI, having to find one in a long list of favorites doesn't seem very user friendly. With so many favorite navigation destinations, that seems to be an address book and not a list of favorites anymore, so you should probably put them in your phone's contacts and then they get synced to the car and you can easily start navigation to them via voice command. If you don't want your entire phone address book to be synced to the car, most phone's have a way to categorize them and then in the Bluetooth settings specify which categories to sync. Also, storing them in the phone means they'll come with you from car to car instead of having them stored just in one car and then when you sell it they are essentially gone.
If it’s in the navigation it will take into account traffic and also can be used as input adjusting the vehicles driving characteristics.
Agreed, I often have the navigation on in the background even to destinations that I know how to get there, but so that I get rerouted if there is unusual traffic or at least see how many minutes of delays are on the route. I've never found a need to store my regular destinations as favorites, though. The POI search is so good that simply using voice to start navigation to a place by name is quicker and more convenient than going through my favorites, or often the destination is still in my last destination list, so I can quickly select it from there. I have about 5 favorites setup, but those are functions that I use relatively frequently like the 360 camera and they all fit on one screen, so they are true shortcuts that don't require scrolling through a list of 20 favorites over multiple screens.
Why need so many?
I mean there comes a point when you can just drive to them without needing navigation.... or am I missing something?
I had many favorites loaded in my 2013 and I had them organized by area after I re-named them. For instance, when we vacationed in Florida, I had them listed as "FLA - Carrabba's" etc. That made finding the favorites in the area of interest much easier. I also had favorites listed from other areas in the same manner. It was my way of organizing them. Since the favorite folder was listed in alphabetical order, it worked well for me. The 2020 system does not seem to be set up with the same capabilities. To me, it's a step backwards but I'll just have to work around it.

I also used that system with my old 2013 B-Class. I was quite puzzled too when I saw that in MBUX you cannot create an unlimited number of favourites.

Also, if you have Mercedes Me, you can save it under any name in your “Send to Benz” app.

I'm not sure why you don't just create contacts for all these destinations in your phone, better yet in your cloud contacts, so that you don't lose them when you buy a new car or your MBUX system gets restored to factory settings after a firmware update. This is obviously not data that can't be recreated, but storing your personal data in only one place is rarely a good idea. Devices can malfunction, get lost/stolen or may require factory resets at times, so having your data's source of truth be external to your devices means you can always easily sync the data back to a device. The favorites do sync to the Mercedes Me cloud if you have Personalization turned on, so there is that at least and you could restore them from your online user profile. You can still use favorites when you go on vacation. You can create favorites from the contacts in your address book, and then delete them afterwards to make room for your next vacation destination, but you always have your destinations backed up in the cloud and don't need to renter them in a new car or after a factory reset. Food for thought.
