I have been trying to get videos on my USB drive to play full screen (when parked) but have yet to figure out how. Has anyone else? Tapping on the small video opens up the add playlist menu for me.
Some reason or another, my GLE plays video randomly. I was able to play some times and not other times. I've just got the GLE 3 days ago, so still checking it out.
Different files. Also file titles are randomly readable and not readable. I'm still twicking the GLE so I hope all is well soon.
may i ask what kind of video files were able to play? could it have something to do with copyright protection maybe? i've tried different formats (mkv mp4 avi), i cant get any video to show... all i get is audio. its weird coz... when playing a file... it manages to look at the video and creates an album cover image for the track to display on the screen. its as if though the system only recognises it as an audio file.
My video files were MP4 files. I've downloaded from youtube using 4k video downloader program from 4k video download web site. (you can google it. very handy program by the way).
When I listed on MBUX, little icons played videos too. But some of them I was able to expand to full view and some don't. Almost like random. Some times it's playing full screen and some times blank.
I haven't figured out yet.
I've tried 3 movis in mkv files and only 1 out of 3 played full screen. Other 2 didn't. just dark blank screen. Audios only. Must be the copyright things.
I'll play some more later and I will post results when I can, if I can.
ah thanks. i use youtube-dl for linux... i assume they do the same thing. some youtube vids now will have 4K quality which will have a much higher resolution than what mbux can handle (FullHD 1920x1080). so im guessing that might be the case on ur side.
im trying to play music videos at the moment hence i suspect it to be copyright protection. and i also think that maybe my usb drive transfer rate is too slow. its weird, coz i use the same usb on my GLA45 with no problems (still uses the old COMAND system) but yeh... thanks for the info... you've crossed out some of my suspicions as to what my problem might be.
I’m disappointed about the loss of cd/dvd player in the car. It was useful to me because I have no time to look for movies and download them, to then put on usb so my kids can watch something in the car while it’s parked.
My solution come Christmas time will be getting them two iPad Pros hooked up to the front seat-backs (they are pre-wired for accessories). That way, I can just download titles from Netflix and call it a day. Bonus: it will work while in motion too.
So I went out to car this morning and did some more video playing and it looks plays pretty good today.
I'm thinking, it might have been my usb stick (64GB). 1st time inserted and it took awhile to situated (get the bugs out?!)
2 movies that gave me blank screens yesterday, played fine today.
So, 3 out of 3 movies were good and all the music videos played fine.

Next project: by pass drive command so my Sweetheart can watch video while I'm driving. (on main dashboard instead of Ipads or laptops. Too much to carry)

yerrr... search for video in motion. theres a U.S. site that sells this feature (not sure if im allowed to say it here so i wont).. it will set u back around $150AUD however... they could only do it for the old COMAND systems. i dont think theyve gotten around the mbux system yet. only time will tell i guess. but u gotta be careful with that... even if u claim that u werent watching (since its still visible from where u r sitting).. cops wont let u off with that excuse.
So back on to the original question, has anyone found a way to get MBUX to play video full screen (even when parked)?
YES. it plays most of time in full screen(when parked). I said most of time because my GLE has mind of its own, so once in awhile, when go back to title list and play, it does not go full screen. I have to go back and forth to make it full screen.

I've tried it when parked and it's still only playing in that tiny frame/window within the MBUX interface... and have tried various video files (and funnily enough I actually bought the 4K Downloader you referenced a while back so I could download car reviews to watch on my phone on the plane).

Did you touched (pressed) expand icon at bottom right?

I kept looking today but didn't see anything which looked like an expand icon? Are you able to describe it (or take a photo)?
I also realised it wasn't even playing the video but instead just showed a thumbnail when the car was parked (engine off). I could hear the audio playing though.

Thanks @Do_the_GLE350 ... for some reason, my GLE won't even play back video files anymore (the same files which I am 99% sure used to work when I first got my GLE). It just plays the audio and has a static thumbnail. I tried this with various files both 720p and 1080p which used to work but no luck... it's as if it doesn't recognise the video and just plays the audio. Tried both with ignition off/parked, and ignition on/parked.
I also saw in the US manual it mentions setting video aspect ratios/etc... I couldn't find such a menu in my General settings.

That is very ODD.
I wonder if anything to do with your location?
I do know that video file playing is not solid program on MB part (on my GLE for sure), because whenever I mess with play list (back and forward) It plays on and off.

I have the exact same. No video play back and the "expand" button missing. Bummer.
