Beware of the keyless hack
For those of you parking your car in front of your house, beware of the keyless hack:

The idea of key fob hacking has been around for a long time. If it were that common, it would be talked about a lot more. I wouldn’t take any extra precautions other than making sure the doors are locked and having insurance coverage on the car. The concept is pretty neat though.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Mercedes keys from 2018 onwards go "inactive" after a set period of time so the hackers can't get the codes if they use a scanner?

I found this report - https://uk.motor1.com/news/364855/wh...security-test/ admittedly the test was carried out on an A-class but I would think all Mercedes keys are the same,

Mercedes official statement - A spokesman for Mercedes said: “All our Keyless-Go keys can be switched off by pressing the locking button on the key twice and the latest generation of Keyless-Go keys are equipped with a built-in motion sensor. This means that if the key is motionless – for example, in a drawer or on a hook – after two minutes, no Keyless-Go signals are sent out and the signals from the key cannot be hijacked.”

just ordered a GLE450 plus plus and been told by the dealer that you cannot turn off the keyless go, they also mentioned the motion action where it turns off after two or three minutes of no motion. so, something to test when I get the car next year. I'll certainly try the double button push to see if it works and report back.

Why don’t you think that Mercedes Key Fob sleep function doesn’t stop that kind of theft? My Fobs go to sleep prematurely so that just walking around doesn’t always wake them. But when napping you can’t unlock the car. They designed the Fobs specifically to stop that kind of theft. And with Mercedes Me you can track the cars location. Seems like a pretty decent theft deterrent, IMO.
