Base navigation system has no speed limit display?

2020 GLE 350 owner, have a barebone model with third row seat and moon roof.

Been trying to figure this out for a while, looks like speed limit is not displayed anywhere?

My 5 years old Garmin had it, thought it is part of map data.

Option 513 Traffic Sign Assist ($295) displays the detected speed limit signs in the instrument cluster.

In fairness to MB, they use a camera to read signs and only use map data as a backup. Traffic sign assist displays both the speed limit and suggested speed (on ramps and curves, for instance) and does a very good job of reading signs and eliminating noise like "while towing" and "truck" limits. Occasionally it will give you a false positive (like reading the speed limit of a parallel service road when you're on a highway) but, all in all, it does a good job and is more accurate than the speed limit displayed by Maps or Waze.

I hope it knows the difference between kilometers and miles per hour when we cross the border!

Pretty sure they have that covered.
