Front cam activates at stop lights / Intersections

Front cam activates at stop lights / Intersections. While I don't recall which function I engaged in the settings to activate this, regardless I am curious what the purpose of this function is or perhaps what it relates to. This is NOT while Navigation is engaged, this is in normal driving mode and nothing activated other than the setting mentioned.

The root of my question is the value add purpose vs just the normal nav map showing on the screen and using my own eyes to look out the front windshield. Is there some safety purpose or other elements which would appear on the dash cam view / screen while stopped at a light/ intersection I am unaware of?

thank you

Might be a malfunction, mine doesn’t do that in normal driving unless Nav is active. It could be related to the activation when parking. As I start to park my GLE will activate the front camera and birds eye view automatically.
I don’t recall ever seeing any activation feature like you describe.

There is a setting in the menu for traffic lights, if activated and you are at the FRONT of the queque it shows the traffic lights in the main screen, it is there for when you are at traffic lights and the car is too close to them to see them through windscreen. It does not activate if there is a car stopped in front of you.

Ok, that actually makes sense...convent and a maybe a bit overkill yet I see the safety element in the function and I will test it knowing that knowledge
Thank you!

I just had an instance where I was at a light and the sun was in my eyes. When I lowered the visor I could not see the light but I could on the display. I thought...."How nice!"

Yes it is in the settings, have a play around, if you can't find it I will check where it is in my car.

My sales rep set it up, it's so if the sun is behind the traffic lights, you can view the light on the screen and see it change without having to look directly into the sun. Works great.

What a great feature! Going to be a complex set up when I receive mine considering all of the menu options. But that's what I deal with in the myriad of menu options, sub menus, and sub sub menus of professional digital cinema and still cameras. Alas, no voice commands yet on the pro cameras (Hey Sony, set up High Dynamic Range Profile 2). But the not-so-humble GoPro does have limited voice control.

A gaggle of MB's
If you have Augmented Navigation - that upper front camera with Aug Nav can be set to come on when you come to a Slow Stop - that thingy is either in the Nav Advanced Menu or the Vehicle Assistance Menu... separate feature selection which I "think" come default Off - so has to be selected "On"

how do you turn it on. Mine showing as off and radio button selected. Nothing happens when I click on it. I have Augmentation package. I can check and uncheck street name and house number but traffic light view won’t change

You probably made the same mistake I did before. If you check the "scroll bar" on the left side (right if you are right hand drive I believe), you can actually see that you can scroll down more. Once you scroll down, there is 2 more options, one is "On Request", one is "Automatic".
The menu on the MBUX sometimes is not as clear when there are more options that require scrolling.

Hi, can you describe what you mean by "Front cam activates at stop lights / Intersections?" What does it do, and what do you see?
Is it the Parking Sensors lighting up and beeping, or something else? I have had a problem with overactive parking sensors, which are being repaired wit replacements (I hope - at the shop now).

This feature is included with the augmented reality navigation. When stopped at light the windshield camera activates so that you can see the traffic light and intersection to give a visual assist in case there are conditions that could affect your view such as sun glare, or your position in relation to the overhead light.

Still need help here. What do you mean by "activates?" Does it show in the left third of the center display? Or the drivers display? Where to look, and what do you see? Thanks.

All the centre screen (nav screen) changes to camera view if no cars are in front of you at the traffic lights.

There are a couple "On Request" options here and there in the menu. What would "on request" do? How would you make that request? Pull to the side of the road, drill down through the menus and make the "request?"

To be honest, I never try the On Request option. I would think it would be similar to the "Automatic", but instead of automatically showing up on the screen, it shows as a notification at the top, and only activate the camera if you select it.

Mine is set to "on request" - shows on the screen when I get to a traffic light. Is there any way to activate it from the steering wheel pad? If I press enter, nothing happens. How do I activate the screen once the "on request" option shows on the screen?

I was wondering how to “activate” it myself. Mine is currently on automatic. Also, it doesn’t matter if cars are in front of you either. The other day I was two cars back, this morning I had a small panel style truck in front of me and then I also had this today and it “activated”...
