Remote start, shut off on door unlock

So I am getting used to the new Mercedes Me Connect app. I am loving the remote start feature that I didn't have back in my ML.

So dumb question is it normal for the car to turn off when I open the drivers door? Some of the other cars my family has had doesn't do this.

Yeah, it's normal. It shuts off once you unlock the door. A bit annoying, actually. Not sure why it was designed that way. Security reasons, maybe? It is not like someone can hop in and drive off with the car with the key fob.
Other cars that I've owned (non-Mercedes) with remote start doesn't do this. The engine usually stays on (not to mention, you have the ability to set temperatures, etc).

I agree super strange. Thanks for confirming that the functionality is normal for mercedes.

I find it annoying as well but I do get the purpose of it. I had a Nissan where it was done a bit better - you could press the engine start button again once inside the vehicle, it would read the remote immobilizer, and stay on.

That is the design. I don't understand why but it is what it is. Worked the same way on all of my Lexus RX's and a GMC Yukon Denali. I found it annoying to start the vehicles while on the last hole on the golf course on a hot day and then have them shut down as soon as I opened anything. I would have to briefly get in with golf shoes on to start things up again and get that A/C running again. If it is security they are worried about, why not have it shutdown when someone tries to move it out of park?
