Upcoming GLE competitor

The Korean manufacturers have really amped up their game the last few years. This Genesis GV80 doesn't look half bad, with nice interior. Road scanning suspension. I'm sure it will be a great value for those not needing the Euro nameplate. The Kia Telluride just won the 2020 North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Award.

I's funny my neighbor has a gle350 coming off lease soon and he wanted to go take a look at a telluride... they can't keep them on the floor... he tried 3 times and by time he got there they where sold...

they do look good when driving by... that interior shot looks nice...

I can't stand when car manufacturers just plop a tablet on top of the dash, rather than designing the dash to incorporate the touchscreen more seamlessly. Yeesh. Spend a little time and engineer something that looks nice.

Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis (same company at the top) have been pushing the envelope for a while now. My last KIA was fantastic.
They do have several people on their teams who worked for Audi and Mercedes formerly, and you can see that come through in the designs.
Having said that, I don't think this is a competitor to the GLE.

The Telluride and the Palisade are both front wheel drive. AWD is an option. The GV80 is rear wheel drive with AWD as an option. Personally I prefer rear wheel drive.

I'm sure it's a conscious decision on not just a lack of designing. That "look" seems to be fashionable nowadays. Heck, even my 5-year old M4 was a precursor to that design (pic below). I do like on the Genesis how it lets the main dash be low and clean. They did a nice job with the air vents, unlike Mercedes.

Yeah, I’m sure it is, but it looks half-assed.

the front looks pretty good, i like it, looks like a Range Velar. the back i can't stand when they have the giant labeling of the car right across as if people can't see it as oppose to a logo or something.

I dislike the exterior, myself. The interior is nice though.

Porsche and Lamborghini do the same on their cars. You may not like it but it's not a cheap characteristic.

I prefer the back to the front. Back is a pretty clean design. Front is too complicated and doesn't seem like a harmonious design. I don't like the misalignment of the grille to the headlights. The grille seems too big.

Good call on the misalignment of the grille and headlights. I couldn’t put my finger on what I didn’t like about the front, but that’s it.

I’m not a fan of this rig at all.

Yeah, but for a reported $60k loaded versus $80-90 GLE? Not for me, but good value for many.

the font on this Genesis seems to be twice as big as on the porsches so it sticks out like a sore thumb in my view.

anyway, only time will be able to tell whether Genesis will be able to make it. they're still relatively new at around 4 years of age vs MB at almost a century now of car making. not for me as i like things that are tried and trued vs being a lab mouse.

Owning a 2020 V167 GLE, you will most certainly be a lab mouse beta testing the software/OS.

The GV80 is going to sell like hotcakes. I hope they bring all of the optioned features to the USA intead of holding back some of the highest tech features. I'd buy it over a GLE. As to the company itself, Hyundai motor company is the third largest auto maker in the world behind Toyota and VW group. The Genesis is not going away. The GV80 and the upcoming GV70 was sorely needed in the Genesis lineup. Hyundai/Kia has been making compelling cars and now compelling SUVs with the new Telluride and Palisade.

But if you notice, the headlights align with the side vents which align with the taillights.

2021 Genesis GV80

Latest per C&D:

"2021 Genesis GV80 Tops Out Around $65K for 375-HP V-6 Model
Genesis revealed the GV80 for the second time in Miami—two weeks after its Korean unveil and our first drive—as the city preps like mad to host the big game. There’s still no official word on price, but we have it on good word the GV80 will start at $50,000 for the rear-wheel drive inline-four and crest $65,000 fully-loaded for the all-wheel drive V-6. That will make it somewhat cheaper than competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE-class, which starts in the mid-$50,000 range for a four-cylinder model and can reach well into the $80,000 range for a fully equipped six-cylinder model.

Both of the GV80's turbocharged engine choices for the U.S. market are new to the Hyundai and Genesis families. The 2.5-liter turbo-four is the same engine seen in the new Sonata N-Line, and it's likely to make around 290 horsepower in the GV80. The 3.5-liter twin-turbo surpasses the brand's current 3.3-liter V-6’s 365 hp, making a total of 375 horsepower. An 8-speed automatic and a full suite of driver assists come standard. All-wheel-drive models have an electronic limited-slip differential.

Damn it Greg! Stop making me regret my non-refundable deposits!! =P

I'm just playing, but in all honesty it sounds pretty promising. Hyundai has come a long way in the past few years and I'm fairly certain this will sell through quite nicely in the US. At the same time I'm happy I've went with a Mercedes because they've been in business of making SUV's for quite some time and....well...I rather not think I threw away thousands of dollars on a car that's financially inferior by a potential South Korean competitor.

This is going to be a big deal. Our GLE450 just came in but I wish we'd kept the 2016 and got one of these. The wife, however, is partial to the three pointed star.

Here's the latest GLE competitor. Ford is not for me, but seems like a decent vehicle.

While new, this Lincoln looks like it is a 5 year old design on the interior and 10 years old on the exterior.
