Any towing experience with GLE 350?

I've got a 2013 ML 350 bluetec that I absolutely love. The diesel has been great for mileage, power, and the ability to tow. It's now time to think about something new and the wife wants to stay with Mercedes. Also going to need the third row seating for the new grandchildren. Figured I'd be looking at the GLE 450, but my dealer swears the 350 will tow OK too. The reality is we only tow long distances probably once a year pulling an open trailer hauling our Plymouth Prowler. Trailer and Prowler weigh perhaps a little over 4000 lbs. Also tow a boat with similar weight, but only a few miles to a launch ramp. Dealer is telling me they are not getting many 450's.

Anyone with towing experience with the 350? I'm worried about that little 4 cyl.

I drove the GLE 350 and in my opinion, I thought the GLE 350 was weak and didn't have enough power. This is the reason I opted to get the GLE 450.

With my GLE350 I have towed my single axle Wells Cargo trailer fully loaded three times now on a 200 mile trip. In my opinion it tows just as well as my 2017 GLS550. No problem what so ever.

That's good to hear guess im old school and get nervous with a 4cyl pulling s trailer, but then again the 4 bangers aren't what they used to be when i had one... a 75 chevy vega....

I agree with you. It seems the 4 cylinder would be to small to tow but it has the same ratings as the others. But doesn’t Ford’s eco boost have a 6 cylinder and its one of their higher rated towing trucks? These smaller motors are apparently getting better.

I tow a 2020 Aliner Family Expedition (18' A-frame) popup travel trailer (2200 lbs wet, 280 lbs tongue weight) with my 2020 GLE 350. I have an aftermarket Stealth Hitch for my towing needs. 4 cylinder does fine. 55mph -> D8, 1700 rpm, 21mpg.

Aliner coupled with GLE. No weight distribution needed as tongue weight is 250lbs, Tekonsha Prodigy RF brake controller works in tandem. Stealth hitch does not provide towball receiver on a hitch, towball assembly directly slots into towing frame. So weight distribution is not possible in this aftermarket setup
