Just heard that Mecedes picked up my order

Just got an email from our dealer that Mercedes picked up the order for our 2020 GLE 450. Dealer said he would be able to give up weekly updates now. I searched but did not find anything on what being "picked up" means exactly. Also can anyone give a guess at scheduling of the options lock down, VIN release, scheduling of a build date, etc? I know things are slowing in AL but I am interested how things have gone of late.

Thank you

You need to ask your dealership this. Could mean anything from picking up the car to accepting the order in their system. We don’t know your particular circumstances. Depending on your options, it’s usually a 4-6 month wait until you get to drive it home. With this factory slowdown, it throws a wrench into the works. Hopefully your wait isn’t too long.

A gaggle of MB's
"Picked up" means the factory has issued a acknowledging PO# - ask your dealer to email you a copy of that PO so you can confirm that your options have been correctly confirmed.

In the Dealer NetStar system - in what's termed the "VII" screen there will be a "Decade Scheduled" date from the factory for that PO - the month is split into 3-decades - for example 2nd decade is the 2nd 10 days in the middle of the month.

I would "guess" your GEL450 is "scheduled" for either 2D or 3D June production in your dealer's VII.

That said - two important things:

1. We are in a exceptional World Event with Covid19 - like all other US and European auto factories - parts supply chains are already disrupted - and YES Vance will close. Informally. at this point auto factories close April thru June.

2. As shown by the production delays earlier this year - factory systems like MB's cannot be "reset" to account/update for unforeseen supply chain disruption and/or factory closure - meaning it is most likely your Schedule date will not be updated/changed in the Netstar system as this World Event continue's to unfold.

You, me, your dealer really does not know what will happen - except there will be MAJOR DELAY in manufacturing on the order of "informally" 3-6 months.

I say this frankly - if there is a GLS450 out there on the ground at any dealer that will meet your needs - find it - confirm your dealer will get you that GLS or refund your deposit - and buy it !

Thank you fabbisd1. I thought I had heard (or read) the term before and it had a specific meaning. I know the Covid19 is throwing a wrench into things and that is just the way it is. My problem with finding a car already at a dealer is that it is most likely one that sat on the parking lot in AL for months waiting parts and I am not sure I want one of those. Other that the excitement of getting our first MB, we are really not in a hurry to get the car. My wife is going through chemo so we are hunkered down pretty much, not going anywhere or doing anything. It will come when it comes, Thanks again for the information and I will ask my dealer for a copy of the email.

The horses are now in the barn, 2019 E63s
I suspect the remainder of any 2020 line in Germany affected by supply line delays will be abandonded in order to start 2021 models which have facelifts. It pains me to say it since I'm not interested in the 2021 E63 and won't get to do the EDP.
