Got this notification this morning. Restarting vehicle was no help. Search of forum was no help. Any suggestion before I contact the dealer? (I prefer not to do that until this virus stuff is over!)

Did you ask Mercedes to turn the HUD back on? May be worth a try?

Just went to try that and guess what?? It's working!!! Didn't do anything. Thanks for the suggestion. I will keep that in mind in case it happens again.

That happened to me when I first got the car, I was messing around with the display buttons on the steering wheel and managed to inadvertently turn the HUD off. So I asked Mercedes to "Turn on the Heads Up Display" and she did. You can also ask her to turn it off.

This happened to me last night, after the sun set..."had" to make a Sonic run for a ice cream. My Hud was working fine, but as I was waiting in the drive through line, I noticed the HUD was gone and I had a message on the MBUX right screen that read "HUD inoperative". I turned the vehicle on and off twice in line, but I kept getting the HUD Inop message. Drove home with it not working. When I got home, after about 15 min I went back to the garage and restarted the car -- the HUD was working. However, I did a quick spin around the neighborhood it appeared to me that the HUD was dimmer that it was previously. I will have take it in to my dealer next week and have them check for codes...fortunately I only live 4 miles away from the dealership.
I had something similar happen with the DISTRONIC cruise control on two occasions. When I went to turn the system on, I received a "Driver Assist Inoperative" message on the driver's MBUX screen. I turned off the vehicle and restarted, and the DISTRONIC started working. Took it into the dealer thinking it was S/W related, but they checked for codes. The service tech found codes UO429EA, U110EFB, and U110EFD. The Dealer ended up replacing my Steering Wheel Electronics Module and the Steering Wheel Button, and the problem has not has not reoccurred.
I had the same issue of the HUD not working on our 2019 CLS 450. I came home and started the car again, and the system worked. No issues since. The dealer told me that due to the complexity of these electronic systems, non-recurring glitches will happen on and off.
