Parking Assist Question

Can Parking Assist thread the needle into a 2-car garage? I’m too nervous to try, but if someone else has had success with this It would be good to know.

So far I've found it to be pretty unreliable and gave up even trying to use it.

I've found my system (GLC ) to be very effective and reliable. When I bought my car first I thought it was a gimmick that I would never use but found it to be very useful and regularly use it now!

I was told it was designed for:
(1) Parallel parking, when there is 1 open space with a car on either end.
(2) Perpendicular parking, when there is 1 open space with a car on either side.

If there are multiple open spaces, it doesn't work very well: and it won't recognize and steer into an open garage door.

It depends on the layout of your drive etc.
If you can drive across the open garage door for the system to 'see' the space then it will reverse in as if it was a parking space.

As Tex noted, it's really designed to help you park in a single space, whether parallel or perpendicular. In that regard, it works pretty well (but always pay attention because it's not 100 percent). However, as someone who his pretty proficient at both parking styles, I do find it too slow to be useful. It's a neat trick to let the car pull itself into a parking space, but it takes more effort and time to do so. The camera views are far more useful to me than the actual parking assistance.

That all said, I was also nervous to try it for the first time, but it really does work. Like I said though, just make sure you still pay attention.

^^ +1... it does work fairly well for what it is intended and I used it occasionally after I first got my 2019 C63S and was still getting used to its dimensions and reading the 360 camera. However, I don't really use it anymore now. Like you, I can park the car faster on my own using the cameras than letting the system do it. Once I had gotten used to the 360 cameras and what the lines indicate, parallel parking with the right distance to the curb has become a breeze. The side view of the 360 is perfect for that. Just need to align the red line with the curb and it's a perfect parking job. I noticed that the parking assistant tends to not park the car a 100% parallel to the curb and leaves too much distance between the wheels and the curb, especially if the car in front isn't parked nicely. I found myself always correcting and moving the car a little closer to the curb, so it's become rather useless. I do occasionally use it in the dark, when it's difficult to make out the curb on the cameras. I've never used the system to park perpendicular, because I tend not to park between other cars. I always seek out the end spots and park away from other cars. I've noticed it often aborts if cars zip by or something like a bush branch reaches into the parking spot. It picks those things up somewhat late and then aborts in panic mid parking maneuver. I would think that depending on how much space there is between the car and the garage door frame, it may abort as well and as said above, you have to drive by the space for the system to see it and measure it out before you can use it to park, so for most garages where the driveway leads straight up to it, there's no way to do a drive by.
