AC problem, maybe

I have a 2020 Gle 350 SUV, and I live in south Florida, the AC is always left on, temp is set on 68 both sides, auto switch is always also left in the on position.
when entering the car and starting up, very hot car interior, the fan blower seems to only be at about 50% speed, the auto button light is lit, AC button is lit, and the temp setting is at 68 both sides, if I hit the auto button off for a moment and then switch it back on the AC will blow on high trying to cool the car off quickly and then work correctly through out that driving segment, but will demonstrate the same situation upon starting the next morning. I have owned many MB cars and currently own 2 others and all will switch automatically to high speed when the interior is so very hot. Service advisor says the system is operating normally as they do about everything else. Can anyone offer any advice?

I can’t answer this BUT thank you for explaining my exact issue much better than I did in other threads. THIS is my exact issue and hoping someone has the answer.

What are the climate settings on the MBUX screen? Perhaps the car is defaulting to the climate setup in MBUX?

I actually didn’t know that a ‘profile’ could be set up through MBUX for climate. I always just have it on AUTO. When I remote start the truck the app shows the temp in the car, which is usually 180 degrees Fahrenheit. You would think the blower would be super high while the temp is set to ‘Low’. But blower speed ( which ridiculously doesn’t negate auto when changed) is only at 2.

In Auto - yes, the to me the Fan is "held back for 5-10min before Auto shifts it to Full On" - I miss the "Max AC Button" - so I manually set the fan higher (which turns off auto) and when I am cool enough I switch back to Auto.

If I was getting "180F" like parked out at the office or shopping mall - I would add DuPont Crystalline film to all windows - including front windshield if you don't use a fold-out windshield shade.

Crystalline cuts remaining IR and UV back by another 90%+ for each - available in "almost clear" so won't be too dark at night.

I never use the auto function while setting the temp and adjusting the fan speed as needed. I feel certain levels aren't consistently the same intensity. In addition, I have perceived the fan speed changing without any adjustment from me. I know this has been discussed, but why are fan levels 1 and 2 so weak!

Need to upgrade to a 580 in order to get the belt driven A/C system. 350 and 450 work off a battery, will never cool properly.

Actually the inline 6 cylinder 450 and 8 cylinder V8 580 both use the 48 volt EQ Boost system which does not have drive belts. The 4 cylinder 350 does not have EQ Boost and has traditional belt driven accessories.

Interesting, did not know that. Review I read stated otherwise. So does the lack of a belt diminish cooling power?

Sadly I can’t comment on that as I am still waiting for my 580 that I ordered in March. Finally got word this week that a VIN was assigned, so hopefully I can check out the AC soon 😀

I can only speak to what I know. The A/C in my 350 works great. I have the Pano roof, and it’s been 100 deg here in Fredericksburg. That said, my 350 is garaged, so it does not get heat soaked out in the sun often. Any car will take time to cool off if it is heat soaked...the ac ducts will be hot, so the cold air has to cool them down first (hot air ducts will warm the air blowing out of them), then that cold air has to cool the rest of the interior.

It gets hot in Fredericksburg for sure. Keep it garaged, makes all the difference.

For myself, I haven't encounter any issue with my AC system.
I live in PA, so we don't have that many hot days, plus with the COVID-19, I travel way less. But for the few times that I drive, the AC system works as expected.
The benefit of the 48V system is that, even when the engine is off (during auto start stop), the AC can still run. This is not possible on the 350 since it requires engine to be on to run the system.

The other thing you have to be careful of, is that there is actually 2 separate fan speed settings on the GLE. One is with AUTO on, and one is when AUTO is off.
When AUTO is OFF, the fan speed is a "fixed" speed. For example (not real number for the car), 5 bars = 100%, 4 bars = 80%, 3 bars = 60%
But when you turn AUTO to ON, the fan speed turns to a different setting. Its like a range where 5 bars = 60 - 100% (again, not real number for the car, but easier for explain), 4 bars = 40 - 80%, etc. It will blow stronger with the interior temperature is higher, and slower when its close to the set temperature.
When you switch between AUTO AC on and off, make sure the fan speed is also set correctly.

When the engine is off and the ac is pulling from the 48 is the air temp the same? Just as cold? My experience with my cars that have the auto start/stop is the ac temp is not the same. I always turn that feature off as I find it most annoying.

It is just as cold since the AC runs on the 48V system. The only differences I found is that I believe they lower the fan speed a little to help save the battery life (maybe?)

I've found the AC to work very well in this car. I have the standard sunroof and never close the shade but have been surprised that the interior doesn't get as hot as I expected with an all black interior. I also have a 2020 Ford Explorer with no sunroof and all black interior...it gets unbearably hot!

I agree on the annoyance of the auto start/stop "feature".

I find on the CLS53 The on off start is seamless. This propulsion system is the smoothest I have ever had. The I-6 engine is so superior to the grindy V6 plus big difference in power compared to the 396 hp AMG V6. It feels very much like my past V8’s.

The ECO start can be reprogrammed using a OBD module/programmer available thru eBay from Vladimir in Belarus - the major advantage of reprogramming is if you set ECO off - and you switch profiles during your drive ECO won't come back on... like $200 for a 2020

as I said prior, it seems that both yours and my GLE are doing the exact same thing, absurd that “Auto” setting selected, outside air temp being 94, and interior air temp being around 110 or more would only run fan speed around 50%.

I am not understanding the problem here. We live in Southern Arizona where the afternoon temperature today hit 108. The inside temp in our garage is probably at least 20 deg hotter. The A/C is set at 72: both sides. The Auto switch is turned on as well as the A/C switch. From this point, we never touch anything. The blower is on high, the car is dramatically cooler within 5 minutes, and the blower starts reducing volume flow automatically. We never change anything, even in the winter when we need heat. The GLE comes equipped with a very effective climate control system.

I guess that is the problem. The blower speed NEVER lowers on its own. If it’s full blast when I start the car it’ll still be full blast an hour later.
