Start up procedure

Hi all, I had a question on the startup procedure. My GLE350 is now around 1200 miles. Everyday when i start my drive, I have always waited for the engine rev to go down before shifting to Reverse/Drive. Is this really required? On my 5 series, this takes about 30 seconds, so i don't really mind, but GLE takes quite a lot more. I am wondering if this is really an old practice, but not required anymore with the modern technology/oils/coolants and that I am simply wasting time/fuel waiting for the revs to go down, especially since I am past the break-in period.

Thanks for the confirmation. A quick google search showed that Internet agrees too. Some do recommend waiting for 30 seconds at the most, but thats about it.
