Tramlining Issue

I have a 2020 GLE 350 with the standard 19 inch wheels/tires. I spend summers in the midwest where the highways are typically concrete and grooved to minimize icing conditions in the winter. The GLE constantly shifts slightly from side to side on this pavement trying to follow the grooves. Kind of like riding on jello, and pretty nauseating for the passengers. Never felt anything like this in any car; it's similar to a motorcycle crossing over a metal grate drawbridge if you ever experienced that. Complained to the dealer service writer who just gave me a line of nonsense about wide tires, etc. I may have the dealer check the alignment, but I see no signs of adverse tire wear after 16K miles, so doubtful this will resolve it and yet still cost me out of pocket. Anyone else experience this tramlining behavior or does yours ride fine on grooved pavement? Thanks in advance for any input.

It’s common in our area but only at higher speeds. My GMC truck did it, our Lexus did it and our Audi SQ5 does it. I think it’s more the wavy groves in the road that the tire will follow. The groove lines aren’t straight and are designed to shed water. My GLE 450 is no different. One of my golf buddies has a Nissan Murano that goes berserk on the concrete. IMO, the reason some are better than others has more to do with the tire design than the vehicle.

Ron - Thanks for the feedback. It certainly does get worse at higher speeds. If this is common, then I won't go thru the brain damage of trying to get it fixed. Still, pretty disappointing to have this kind of ride quality from a premium make. Just for context, I have owned dozens of new MBs, BMWs, and Porsches, and never experienced this problem. Not surprised about the Nissan however, as I have lots of experience renting these, or should I say avoiding Nissans at the rental counters due to their suspension tuning. I might try a tire change or wheel/tire upgrade to see if it helps. Even though, it came with a decent set of Michelins, very similar to what was on the RR I traded for the GLE.

Yes, that would describe it. Only imagine it at high speed.
