Getting a 2021 GLE 350 4matic with towing packaging and Looking for folks that have pulled a travel trailer that is 6000 lbs total weight and 24 feet long double axle. Will be using the proper hitch and wireless brake controller and sway bars if required. I understand the towing capacity is 7700 pounds but just having a hard time accepting that a SUV can safely pull a trailer this size over a long distance keeping in mind it will be over flat land and some mountains. Retired couple here wanting to see the country. We are new to the MB world as well.....thank you for any experience and guidance!!!

 

Look in the W166 GLE and X166 GLS section and there are several active threads on towing travel trailers near or at the max towing rating. People do it, apparently from their reports, successfully. I tow a 3,500 lb boat/trailer with 100% confidence with my W166 GLE 350. Not the V167, but the point is a Mercedes SUV is a capable towing machine in the hands of a driver who knows what he/she is doing.

 

IMO, the lower torque of the 350 vs 450 makes it less than ideal for towing a lot of weight. The 9 speed will help compensate some but it will require some patience. Passing power, steeper grades and range between fueling are going to be the weak points.

Well after a lot of research and your post we decided to purchase the 450 GLS in lieu of the 350 GLE!!! Feel good about this decision!!!
