Question about servicing

Regarding the A, Bx servicing, is it OK to have this done at an independent mechanic or service station like a brakes plus or meineke?
I have about 60k miles on my GLE350 and its showing its due for a B3 service.
Please advise.

Yes it’s OK. When under warranty it’s a good practice to get complete documentation from the shop on what was done and parts/materials used. It helps avert MB denying warranty coverage based on maintenance not done.

Since at 60k miles you are out of warranty, documentation is mainly for your peace of mind and for the next buyer if you sell the vehicle. It remains critical that the shop knows what they are doing.

Not something I would do...

Wouldn’t take my Benz to anyplace but the MB dealership for service. Yes, it costs more. But the peace of mind I get from knowing it was taken care of by certified techs who understand and appreciate the complexities and nuances of these vehicles is priceless. And if my car were in an accident, no doubt at all I’d have it fixed by MB-certified mechanics.

thanks man, I figured but wanted to be sure...i struggle to balance the thought overpaying for the same service if its performed by a reputable technician.

just recently I had some highway trash get caught up under the truck and it messed up the rear differential. Because insurance was going to cover most of it i had it taken to the MB dealer..I had wanted a couple more things done as well and requested a quote from the dealer just so I could compare elsewhere. After comparison, the surcharge of having services done at the MB dealer is kinda ridiculous. As a result i have become wary of just taking the car in there without making sure

Agree, but in addition, building a relationship with a dealer can help out of warranty issues, too. I've had "goodwill" assistance from dealers after warranty expiration on a few major items.

I have had the opposite experience. I purchased a prepaid maintenance plan and had all of my in-warranty service done by my local dealer. The service advisor and service manager pushed back twice on repairing obvious oil leaks. On my third push, they agreed to repair one of three oil leaks. Terrible.

Also, to the comment above regarding "certified" people at dealerships, I hope the mechanics/technicians are qualified in some way. The service manager at my local dealer does not know that the torque converter needs to be drained per WIS when doing a transmission service.

Mercedes dealers are, on average, terrible in terms of customer support.
