Different 19" tires
Quote: Hello new member needing tire advice.
I have a 2020 GLE 4 Matic With 19 inch rims and Bridgestone Alanza Run flat tires size 255/50/R19. I am very pleased with the ride of these tires but hate the way they look. They definitely look very undersized. I want to see if I could go with the same Bridgestone tires but in a different size 275/55/19 Which are about an inch and a half taller and about an inch wider. Could you please give me some pros and cons, Will I run into any problems with sensors etc.
Also I don’t want to change rim size to a 20 or 21. Also the GLE Has a third row seat so I don’t have a spare any input or advice would be greatly appreciated thank you
For some reason Mercedes choice of 19" tires is way undersized (OD) compared to other choices. E.g., 255/50-19s are ~29.1" OD; 20 & 21 OEMs range from 30.7"-30.9". The 19" wheels are only 8" wide. A 275 will technically work, but is not ideal and will not be as supported as with a wider wheel. At 30.9" OD, the revs/mile on these would be about 6% less than stock. A less radical change would be 255/55-19 or 265/50-19, which would be a little over 3% less. I believe the speedometer in each vehicle is calibrated to the tire/wheel package it is built with, so in any event there would be a speedometer error.

i have 21" rims on 275 & 315 wide tires.
I had 2016 GLE Non-air sus previously and we did not like the ride on new GLE even though our new GLE had air sus.
The new one came with Pirelli, so we swapped with Conti and it got a lot smoother.
Pirelli was sportier but we felt all the joints on asphalt
Conti absorbs all the cracks and joints but not as sporty as Pirelli.

Next time I will try Mich's prim.

My daughter drives a 2020 GLE 350 4Matic AMG with 21' rims. The front tires are 275/45/21 and the rear are 315/40/21.

The car drives great BUT
When it comes time to buy tires............ lay out the greenbacks!

My wife and I are considering buying her car AND we would want wheel and tire size that allow rotation and a better traction in snow and slush. SO.........

Anyone able to advise on if we can switch to 255/50R19's all the way around?

I would advise 275/55/R19s in order to keep the same ride height and wheel speed however I think you would have to do 275/50/R20 because the AMG line has quite large brakes that would hit most 19 inch wheels.

From what you have said, we could possibly go with 255/55-19 or 265/50-19??

Excellent ! 275/50-R20's
The advice I have been looking for.
Now, to find some MB 20" rims with same setback.
I'm on the west coast and my local tire shop is excellent with finding takeoffs. I just need to confirm the specs.

I have had great ride performance with several different Michelins . For snow and Ice and a longer life consider a center sipe cut.

Mandrus Wheels makes specific Mercedes-Benz wheels, some member here has it on their winter tires set. They also have different offsets available.

I have the factory 20 inches all around—same tire size. The factory 20 inch rims have different offsets, so you can’t rotate front to rear without dismounting the tires. So if you install 20 inch rims, they will need different offsets. That said, as long as the car is in alignment, the wear is even just rotating left to right.

As @TexAg91 stated, even the factory 20" wheels have staggered offsets. If you want a square (i.e. non-staggered) setup to allow for rotation, you'll want to buy wheels that properly fit the front then use spacers on the rears to make them flush.

I believe I'm the forum member @djer referred to in their post. My winter setup is from TSW's Mandrus brand. Tires are 275/50/20 on 20x9 wheels all around, but the rears have a more aggressive offset (ET25 rear vs ET45 front). The fit is ideal, but I can't rotate without dismounting, which I won't do.

Those CrossClimate 2s? Great tire, but they're uni-directional so you can't rotate "at all" with the different offsets. If correct, how are they wearing? Supposedly, they are a 60K mile tires.

Controversy goes on but stark reality is that Dealers or Align shops have “nothing to adjust” except basic ‘Toe’ - directional adjustment

The often quoted, reassuring “Full Front and Rear ‘4’ wheel alignment” is just that - Toe adjustment !

No Camber (or Caster) essential to adjust / correct tire “contact angles”, spread load more evenly.

To resolve costly, premature, excessive edge tire wear encountered in day to day commuting.

High cambered roads with excess passenger side edge wear, wheel squat through load carrying or lowering. Fitting wide profile tires. Or just having “ongoing” adjustment capability for curb knock damage.

New car industry’s best kept secret. It is all to do with cost cutting and ever increasing speed of auto assembly lines.

We saw the need to re instate from the 90’s Front Camber and Caster along with Rear Camber (and extra Toe) adjustment.

They're Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 SUV's. It's my fourth set of Hakkas, and I'm smitten. They are directional, so I don't rotate at all on the GLE. I have a previous version on our GLC, and it's on its 7th winter. The tires wear like granite. The GLC wears a square setup (also Mandrus wheels), so I rotate same side-only at the start of every winter.

hey there! is that really so? w/ the offsets being diff, the rotation is not cross and over its just cross. b/c i thought you were supposed to move the rears tofront? does the dealer swap the tires and keep the rims in place?
whats the right way to rotate on w167?
thanks!!!

I don’t find rotating necessary on my ‘20 450. Pretty even wear all around.

Dealer does not rotate. I never asked because I don’t find it necessary and I can’t with 21s.
