2021 GLE 63S SUV Warm Up Time
Hi All. I just took delivery of my new 2021 GLE 63S SUV! What a great car!! Question - what should the optimal engine oil temperature be from a cold start before leaving home in the morning? Thanks!

It should be ambient. The worst thing you can do for warming up a car is to let it idle to warm up. All tolerances won't be as sped'd, and you will have more wear.
If ambient is -40F, you might wait a couple of minutes. The biggest danger at extreme low temps is not engine wear, but the oil not draining from the valve train area back to the pan and oil pump - pretty unlikely with modern oils.
The best thing is to get it to operating temp as soon as possible, but not (of course) by racing away.
Best to start, wait a few seconds (not minutes) and then drive gently away.
That will get all internals warmed quickly, and tolerances will be as designed.
You will be aided by the 48v system, which will minimally circulate coolant while warmup occurs - more quickly. And of course modern oil has sufficient film strength top support cold starts.
The entire system is designed for driving away right after starting, a byproduct of emissions regulations that want you to fire off your catalysts.
You will also get warmth to the cockpit in an amazingly short time.
Enjoy!
