Cool Drive with "airmatic raised mode" on

I know that the car lowers itself at certain speed, but i mostly drive it in the CBD. If I keep the raised mode on, will it filter more bumps and make the ride smoother? or it's only for overcoming higher obstacles (rough and snow conditions, according to the manual)

also I know the fuel consumption will go up, just wondering if keeping the suspension raised will damage it and could make the ride more comfortable.

AFAIK raising will not improve ride quality, but is done to improve ground (or snow) clearance and approach/departure angles.

I might be wrong, but if you think about it like increasing the air pressure in a tire, the ride gets stiffer?

I was wondering the same thing.
Keeping it raised gives more suspension travel so in theory it should help absorb bigger bumps better.

Raised mode is to increase ground clearance. There is a limit on how fast you can drive in this mode.

Mine always feels very unstable when raised and seems to roll back and forth very easily. But I see your point and would interested to know.

Compression for suspension which you may get more of at higher ride height is one thing, but pressures will be higher so it's stiffer. There's droop too with suspension (opposite of compression), when you raise the suspension, your moving from a middle position to a higher position, meaning you are "pre-extending" the suspension. Now when go to a dip, when your suspension wants to extend so the wheel falls into the dip, you get less suspension drop so your whole car drops into the dip. Of course this is an extreme case, but raising the suspension to get more compression travel will also only be used in an extreme case (assuming pressures/air spring rate were to stay the same). Imagine walking down stairs, if you bend your legs to the next step, you get a smooth transition, now imagine you put yourself into "airmatic raised mode" and have your legs fully extended and fall into the next step, you get a shock through your body.

Mercedes engineers know what they're doing, the most comfortable ride height would be "comfort" or normal settings, if there was a more comfortable height, they would just program that in from the get go.

*Disclaimer* I did not proof read the above, it's a thought flow dump, if anybody gets a stroke reading it I am not liable.
