When do I get a VIN #

When do I get a VIN #
I did a search and could not find anything specific. My 53AMG is scheduled to be built second decade of March. At what point would a VIN be generated? This might give me input on whether there will be a delay or not.

According to my Salesman, "VIN usually gets assigned right before it goes into production."
We'll see. Mine is scheduled to start production 2/18/21.

I received the VIN for mine after the car was built. You will probably experience some delay depending on the model you ordered. I ordered a 350 and it has been delayed 2 months so far. I have heard that the 450 taking 6 or more months to be built and delivered due to part shortages. I am not sure for the AMG models what kind of delay they are experiencing.

On previous cars I got a VIN right before they went into production. With this last Covid car (current GLE) I got the VIN when the SA found it popped up at the VPC finally to everyone’s surprise.
