Internet in the car

Hello I'm in Australia and cannot figure out how to get internet in the car working. The manual mentions a Sim card slot but I cannot find it. There is internet being used to Mercedes Me connect but it's not something I can control so there must be a Sim card somewhere in the car.

Any ideas?

Things are not necessarily the same in every country, but you need to log in to the Mercedes me portal, go to manage your services and add a data plan to activate the Wi-Fi hotspot in the car. This is not included normally with the Mercedes me services.

I've spoken to them but they are not sure either, why do forums exist if not to ask questions?

GLE 450
Most of the Mercedes customers they don't know what they are paying when it comes to buying expensive cars and they are not tech savvy.. I bought GLE 450 last year and I assumed many features will work by default and I haven't paid much attention. Following features doesn't work in Australia to my knowledge

Your Car can connect to internet in two ways, the first option is where all cars come with inbuilt in Sim so your can act as hotsopt so other devices can connect but you won't be able to active this Sim as this service is not available by any service providers in the country and the infrastructure doesn't support this. The second option where your car should connect to your mobile phone hotspot, this option is disabled in MBUX but the instructions are mentioned in the manual, I called Mercedes they said this feature should be available in the car but my Mercedes Brighton dealer got no clue of it, it took it to the servicing centre for 3 times, they are exploring this as we speak.. Customers in Australia should put pressure on Mercedes and their dealers other I felt like I bout expensive MBUX toy which is of no use when there is no internet.

Though there are cameras around the car and can view but the recording feature is disabled due to some licence issue, the same available in other countries and you have to go for external dashcam, which costs another 2k.

Thanks very much for this information, I basically gave up on getting internet in the car to work. Was hoping to allow my kids to watch Netflix via browser on long trips but I realised it was easier to download movies to a USB and plug into the rear screens. You can also plug iPhone in via mini HDMI cable and mirror the screen which would allow for internet. So good work around, I'd assume the car internet would be pretty slow anyway so this is better for us.
