During my test drive, I brought my iPhone 12 max pro (using a Gray Advent bumper), and an iPhone 11 pro max using Apple's leather case. Both would not fit - only the naked phone, or one using an ultra-thin case such as the Latercase which fit just fine.

I had the same question before delivery of the GLE ... already had the iPhone 12 Pro Max
but it fits , and it charges wirelessly, I have the transparent case

I have an 11 Pro in an Apple-brand leather case. It barely fits. The 12 Pro is the same size, so it should fit. The 12 Pro Max in the same case more than likely will not fit. Also consider that the wireless charging pad in the GLE charges an iPhone very slowly. Better plug it in to adjacent USB-C port.

Here is a pic with our iPhone 12 Pro Max. I pushed the phone to the right edge to show how much space is towards the left. IMO easily fits the iPhone with a normal case.

The case dimensions are 3.28 x 6.62 x 0.49 inches, and it barely fits width wise. I have to kind of force it in since it rubs against the console tray cover until I can push it flush against the charging pad, and I have to fish it out carefully to remove it (again making contact with the tray cover). So, I would say 3.28" is as wide as you can go (but preferably a bit less). The 6.62" in length isn't a problem, there's a little bit of room to spare.
In my 2021 GLE450 SUV, my iPhone 11 Pro Max with the OtterBox Symmetry Clear Series Case for iPhone 11 Pro Max fits with room to spare. The Otterbox 12 Pro Max version should probably work.
I find the charging pad takes up valuable storage space, so I put other things there. Plus, if I need to access the phone for other purposes, it's hard to lever out of that space.
In general, I'm disappointed at the reduction in interior cubbies and storage in the 167's. And the vulnerability of USB-C drives when inserted.
Lots of manufacturers seem to be sacrificing storage in favor of huge screens.
Mercedes did put the charging pad in an awkward place. I have a 2020 Explorer for work and Ford put the charging pad under the leading edge of the arm rest, the forward area where we have a charging pad is storage.

Mine does the same thing, dealer order a new charging pad not sure when it will be installed since it is on backorder.

it fits bro, but the wireless charger is just ****. Doesn't charge for longer than 30 seconds….. waste of money.
