I’ve never hear of anything like this all my life. Service manager said rubber floor mats could cause water runoff and damage all the electrical sensors under the floor and I would be responsible up to about 6 grand. I told him if anything the little cups would stop any water and protect the floor.

Sounds like a moron. Wonder if he's aware that MB sells OEM rubber mats, just saying....

Crown Mercedes Benz. Dublin, Ohio. I think I’ll go to a different dealership next service. Feel free to anoint these people with your thoughts. Ridiculous.

i don't know about the 6 grand, but I recall a Service Bulletin about water damage at that point. Be careful and be appreciative of the advice.

SOOOOOO, If no rubber mats is would be better to simply just let the water soak into the carpeting??? I'm assuming (yes, I know what that word breaks down as) that if the areas are so prone to water damage they would either supply the MB rubber mats or have some level of water protection built into the carpets in those areas???

Just sounds like made up crap to me. Hope there is another MB service department within a reasonable driving distance.

I assume these are not MB mats but some aftermarket ones? Pics?

I have seen some mats that are designed to hold a fair amount of water.
I could imagine a theoretical scenario where enough water could penetrate the carpet.
Highly speculative about any potential damage though.

This may not be as crazy as it sounds at first. Water protection is always relative. Something can be waterproofed for small amounts of water over time, but if it suddenly gets hit with a larger amount of water it can be a different story. I could imagine that if you use rubber mats that tend to collect a lot of water and then the water swaps over and soaks the carpet all at once it could potentially be an issue. There are drainage pipes in many areas of the car, too, but if they get overwhelmed then water gets into places it shouldn't.

I WOuld say to them:
Crappy design if they put electronics in a place that could get wet from snow covered shoes of people who get in the car or spill their coffee trying to put it in the cupholders.

HEck if ya know ya got issues when it floods you put your AC CONDENSOR unit outside on a raised platform,
Ya pick things up and elevate them above the threat level.

Arggggggggg... so due to their dumb design you cannot drive in the rain and have wet shoes?

I suggest you find the tech bulletin and read it. That's the most effective way to find out what it says.

I don't have the ability at this moment to search for it, but it's been posted on this forum and available to you.
Or you could continue to guess and make silly assumptions.
The dealer did a favor by being alert and informing the customer.
