Thumbs up Navigation dilemma

Just getting adjusted to my new GLE 350. Entered my home address into navigation system. The entry is correct however it doesn’t seem to be able to take me home. I live within the city of New York so therefore it is not some remote or uncharted area. I then changed the destination to a large supermarket in my area thinking that would be an easier option for the navigation system. Same problem. Anyone else having this same or similar type issue, any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong

The MBUX navigation is garbage, stick to Google Maps

Just traded in my 2018 glc where the nav was simply ridiculous and annoying to navigate through. Was hoping that the new GLE nav was improved, it started out fine however its weaknesses began to become apparent after more uses. Will go back and use Waze or Google from my phone, or at least check it against my MBUX nav to see if they match.

Somewhere in the Navigation settings there are options to disable routes with toll roads, highways, tunnels, and perhaps something else. Is it possible you have some of those options disabled and it can't find a route home?

There are a few options that aren't super obvious at first - If I remember well, first you click on the gear icon on the Nav page, then there is a sub-menu that pops up, and within that at the bottom there is an Advanced option, and after that there are some easy-to-miss horizontal tabs near the top of the page and one might be called Route.

[Edit: Also, make sure your maps are up to date]

Thanks, I’ll look for that and hope that it is the reason for my convoluted route to “home “. In any case I’m thinking that the nav itself is nowhere as good as Waze or Google.

I find it usually works okay, but it does choose some "interesting" routes sometimes!

Works pretty well for me around Boston and Montreal, I've compared to Google Maps and the routes are usually similar.

My only complaint is that the time estimate is usually very conservative, for example the built-in Nav might estimate 30 minutes, Google Maps will estimate 22 minutes (for the same route), and the real-time is closer to 22 minutes.

Yeah Greg, will get you where you want to go maybe not the best route. Not as consistently accurate as Waze or Google

Check to see if you have an online map update available. I've found the system works well for POI's but not so well with street addresses. Set your home location manually while sitting in the driveway, then it's navigating to coordinates and will perform much better.

Also something I noticed if you set your Home location:

If you say "Hey Mercedes navigate TO home", it will say it can't find an address for home (or something to that effect).

But if you say "Hey Mercedes navigate home" (without the "to") it works just fine.

works fine here and sussed out my home easily since it always, after a time driving, gives me directions back.

For me, I like to use "take" in place of "navigate" which seems just too formal. After setting my home address, "Hey Mercedes, Take me home" or "Take me to [address] works fine.

Once set, “hey Mercedes, home” it then asks “what do you want to do?” Respond “route guidance”...it then navigates home.

Thanks TwinCam, I am aware of that however it does not give me directions to my home even though the correct address is in the system. I do live in a well populated area so my address is definitely charted. I entered a major supermarket in my area just to see what happens and again it was nowhere near the proper route guidance. Like many built in nav systems it is hit or miss, will use it however will double check. Thanks again

As said previously, if you are having issues don't enter a location. Go to your home select current location on the nav and save it. Go into previous destinations and add it to your favourites as home address.

In our neck of the woods, Waze is worse than useless. Google maps is similar to MBUX, but a lot more bother. Especially with the limited storage / mounting options for phones in the new cars.

And they all make periodic changes, requiring a new learning curve to get the best results.
Plus, I'm just waiting for Google and Waze to increase their monetizing of the service (charging me more). Can you say "Google Photos" or "You Tube Premium?"

I'll focus on learning MBUX.

"Hey Mercedes...take me home" is all I say and it sets up the route guidance.

That's what I do and it seems to respond better.

I am not yet an owner of the new GLE, but in my current ML (COMAND system), the nav told me to make a left turn off the bridge. So, yeah, we don’t use that feature anymore.
