2021 GLE has useless front reading lights

2021 GLE has useless front reading lights
I was pressing the front reading light button many times to figure out where the light turns on but I think these vehicles do not have the lights installed.
It may have been cost effective for the manufacture to keep the switch button but make the actual lights unavailable but it is bit annoying to find out hard way.
If any physical feature is not available, don't leave the switch available...

Front reading lights are under the rearview mirrors, I thought it's the best placement as it doesn't glare the other side when turned on.
Personally I like the way Mercedes-Benz do their interior lights. Both my C300 and my GLE350 allows me to turn on sections of interior lights (front only, back only, reading lights only, etc.)

The front reading lights are positioned so that they don't glare, which I appreciate.
My Copilot can read maps or other things while I'm driving at night, and it doesn't affect my vision. No glare in my face or reflections on the windshield. I wish more manufacturers considered things like drivers ability to see!

GLE 350, C300, GLC 300
I have the MBUX Interior Assistant and if I waive my hand up/down towards the mirror the console lights turn on/off. If i move my hand towards/away from the passenger seat (only if it's empty), the passenger reading light turns on/off. It's really a neat feature.
