Sorry to hear about your experience. This is typical customer (non)support. The brand is swirling the drain, this is just the most recent example.

You should not have to pay for this.

Mercedes is asking me to pay for new control unit (i.e CAD 8K) and is not covered in warranty! This is so frustrating . Anyone else facing this issue ?
What caused the moisture?

Snow melt ! They say that snow from the shoes could have leaked into the systems under the seat to damage it ! My concern is - isnt the car made for Canadian weather ! Some part of snow in the shoe is expected to melt . Also I have added another layer of protection with weather tech mats , yet we are here with this issue for a brand new car - appr 8 months old !
Insurance says it is not water damage and might be an issue with the car manufacturing . Mercedes says it is not manufacturing defect , rather water damage . I am left in limbo as it will dent my pocket !

Better get one of these fellow canadian. https://www.tuxmat.ca/products/8551-...ear=2021&inp=1
Amazon Amazon

Scrap the OEM/weathertech mats as those are garbage. I have these on my cars and ZERO problem with rain and snow. Also looks damn good and luxurious as well.

Thank you so much for the link . That is the same control unit box that is burnt out for us as well. Mercedes isnt taking any responsibility for this and now I have reached out to my insurance to consider this as water damage ! I have planned to open a case file with Mercedes with the evidences and links I have gathered. They must address this issue ! In Canada, snow accumulation in shoes are inevitable . I still cannot believe the vehicle has such defect !

When I get my vehicle I'll be sealing that area. Consider the mats you are using and get the full covered floor option like the Tuxmats. On my ML I also put a dry black towel below the driver and front passenger seats when it is raining hard, snowing or during skiing activities then check it every day after they get off the vehicle to make sure it is dry. You need to make it as a habit.

2024 GMC Canyon Denali..... 2018 Audi SQ5
It’s not only Mercedes that puts key electronic components under the seats and floor. Batteries in the hatch/trunk. It seems like they could find room under the dash or at least waterproof them. Here’s a recall my wife just received for her Audi….“DETROIT (AP) — Volkswagen’s Audi luxury brand is recalling 289,000 SUVs in the U.S. because water can get into a control computer under the back seats.

The recall covers certain 2021 and 2022 Q5 and SQ5 Sportback models and some 2018 through 2022 Q5 and SQ5 models.

The company says in documents posted by U.S. safety regulators that water can get to the computer through liquid spilled onto the back seat, or from a leaky body seam. That can cause the computer to shut down and reduce engine power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will install a cover to protect the computers and seal an underbody seam at no cost to owners.”
