Can a stone damage the star sensor on front grille?

Can a stone damage the star sensor on front grille?
I had a protective masking( Xpel) put on the full hood and front bumper and part side panels. It's invisible.
But, I was wondering if a stone could or has broken the large round star sensor on the front grill while travelling at high speed on the highway?
If so, this could render the distrionic feature to be inoperative?
I was wondering if I should have had the masking put on this too but worried it may have an effect on the operation of the distronic system?
Your thoughts or experience on this subject?

I cannot say whether a stone would break the star or not because it depends on various circumstances, but I would think Mercedes would have though about that when designing that part of the car. I used to drive on highways a lot when I had my E class. I went through 3 windshields and multiple chips on my front bumper due to the abysmal state of I-4 from Tampa to Orlando. However, I never had any issues with the star in the front grill and it was in perfect condition when that lease was up.
