I have become more active over the past couple of years, as I contemplated replacing my Diesel W166 with the new straight six version of the V167. The forum was, and still could be, valuable.
During that time, "The Usual" attackers kept inserting their personal attacks into the threads, seemingly at every opportunity, for reasons only apparent to them.

They have been distractions, and usually people just ignored them for the most part. But then they'd escalate and ride individuals who didn't agree with their posts.
And it has escalated. I don't know if it's a collective "bad time at home," COVID isolation or what, but they have changed the character of this pretty active and informative forum.

So I don't know if it's a good thing that they are being called out for their silly, repetitive cut-and-pastes, or not.
Ignoring them seemed to be enabling, and the insipid posts have seemed to increase. Along with their personal attacks.
But calling them out for their mis- and dis-information is resulting in more retaliation, and the spiral we have seen recently.

So now it's escalated, from people who normally just Don't Feed the Trolls, like me. I apologize for my role in this, but what will become of the forum if the "Usual's" prevail?
What's the best way to get them to quit? (They also appear on several other threads, with virtually the same pasted, irrelevant comments.)

I don't want to see this become just another Facebook, which was once fun and connecting, that I now just don't visit. I can't even stomach buying the Stock, which would have been a + for my portfolio....

I don't do drag races, but I WILL take someone on at the track. I prefer a war of tire dust over a war of words. People seem to keep their races cleaner than their mouths.
But I don't think that's the solution

 

The problem with ignoring them is that people come on here for advice regarding buying a GLE and they very quickly post telling then what a bag of c--p the GLE is, the people posting aren't aware of their history and lack of knowledge of the product they are running down. It really needs the moderators to have a look at what they bring to this forum and when reasonable and knowledgeable members like Ron are drawn into this then maybe the time to do this is now.
I am a moderator on a UK Mercedes GLC43 forum and we don't have any of this. Yes people go on there and air their views good and bad on the GLC but not to the extent where these people do ALWAYS running the GLE down

 

Phil, I've got more knowledge of the 167 platform than you will ever have. I don't need to own one to know about one. Your assumptions aren't facts. You seem to think that just because someone doesn't own one of these dream machines that their opinion is less valuable than yours. That's where you are wrong. Thankfully you aren't an admin here and cannot, and will not...silence dissenting opinions. What about people who sell or service these cars? What are their opinions worth? What about people who have to deal with the customers who bought a 167, when they are stranded out of town with a breakdown? Isn't their opinion valid? Maybe they are simply trying to help others avoid the same catastrophe. Your opinion is just that, yours...and other people have theirs...and they have just as much right as you to tell others about this disaster of a product release. (my opinion!)

What's the source of your "more knowledge of the 167 platform than you will ever have?"
Do you "sell or service these cars?" Do you "have to deal with the customers who bought a 167?":
If so, are 100% of your interactions with those cars / folks a disaster? What is your sample size?

Not celebrating and not a strange satisfaction, just trying to keep it civil after a reliable contributor literally fabricated and falsely accused me things that are grossly inaccurate. I never EVER complained about - or had - an oil leak and never EVER posted about it. Also this contributor implied I had a grudge with MB (which is a LIE), and then personally attacked me because of where I live and brought politics into it (which he completely missed the boat on). I've always kept it about the vehicle not the people, if someone is going to get personal they should at least be truthful, accurate, and "reliable"

 

Apparently I confused you with another similar trash posting member from the past. As I requested, you have corrected my inaccurate assumptions and I sincerely apologize for the inaccuracy of my post.
Some of us can’t help but wonder why a reasonably intelligent person like you is even on a Forum for a car they will never buy and continue to repeat the same negative observations over and over for more than a year. Then you always like any other negative post for a few others that do the same. You are most certainly entitled to your opinion, but you might consider the impact on the person posting about a problem. You have owned a lot of Mercedes vehicles and could be very helpful adding your knowledge-to be helpful…IMO.

Many people posting on this Forum are looking for answers or venting frustration. A very few don’t own a GLE and might find negative feedback of value. There are a lot of new people looking for help-not someone telling them that they own a POS…buy an S class, etc. Unfortunately many members can only purchase what they can afford and might have a loan or lease commitment. We get it…you can afford the best and “will likely continue to purchase more MB vehicles in the future, albeit high lines not this entry level stuff with endless issues.” Not everyone else has that option or desire.

 

You won’t get much sympathy here. You are a thorn in everybody’s side. You continuously pontificate on a car you have never owned. Why not move to forums on cars you own and drive. You are of no value to the members on this thread and you are boring.

 

So, in your opinion, one would have to buy/rent a GLE, then lemon law it, and then they are entitled to express their opinion here, in YOUR opinion? Got it.

 

Just out of curiosity, your 2020 S450 has MBUX, yes? Does it have autopilot and the like too? Have you had any software issues with it, that required updates?

In my experience, and based on observation, the majority of the issues in the 167 are software related, and are being corrected. Apparently, some s/w fixes can only be done by the dealer, not OTA. Curious to know if you've experienced any in your S-class, even if minor. As cars get more S/W heavy, I believe this will be more common given all the possible h/w configurations, especially as programmers move to model base software development. Regression testing doesn't catch everything.

None. I haven't put that much mileage on it but have had no issues thus far. We drive to the shore quite often and I use the auto pilot all the time, flawless. Can't imagine not having that feature. All my updates thus far have been OTA. Haven't taken it in for anything yet. Yes, stuffing ten gallons of tech in a five gallon hat will likely require periodic dealer software updates. OTA for the easy stuff.

 

Eventually you seem to have understood what people think, time to move on and irritate other people.

I would have bought the 450 but I preferred the seats in the 53. Don’t need fast cars anymore. I have owned 8 Porsche 911´s.over the years. My last one was a 2017. Sold it last year. Been there, done that.

PS. All were bought new, not from the scrap yard.
