3500+ mile road trip in 2021 GLE 63S

Hi All,

If it makes anyone more comfortable with owning a new GLE, we gave ours the ultimate test this month by taking a 2-1/2 week road trip in our 2021 GLE 63S. It was on my mind whether we would have the battery issue while on the road, or whether the MBUX would give out (it was replaced once already), but I am very happy to report that the car worked flawlessly! We drove from Florida all the way up the East Coast to Massachusetts with a 5 day stop in NJ. The seats were comfortable, the a/c worked great, the nav was great and we got decent gas mileage considering the twin turbo V8! We folded the rear seats down and had tons of space, and the cargo cover along with the shades on the rear windows were so good you couldn’t see any of our items in the car. It performed well on all different road surfaces. We were very pleased with the entire experience. Just wanted to spread some good news.

Great to hear. I am doing Seattle to Phoenix in a couple of week and hope to have a similar experience.

@ArchHist99 thanks for the report.
We hit the road in our GLE 53 with 500 miles showing, and put 3,000 trouble free miles over a couple of weeks. It's a great road car.
Now we're at 6,000 miles without a problem. At this rate we'll use up the warranty in two years!

Wish it had the 25 gallon tank our earlier ML's had, though.

There is nothing to fear but fear itself. There are hundreds of thousands of happy customers that have never heard of the issues and just enjoy their car. We could die on the next breath but don't let it keep us from enjoying life.

Any feedback on real world fuel economy vs EPA? Is 400 miles between fueling doable?

I might be doing Florida to Texas in a few months and I hope to have a similar experience in my GLE. I am glad your experience was good!

On my road trip a couple of weeks ago, on my 53AMG I was getting 25-27mpg on the interstate and 23-25 on curvy mountain roads going higher and lower. I found 450 miles doable on one tank. This is the best fuel economy I have ever had in the last 50 years with tons of different cars. I love the car!

Wow I'm jealous. My freeway mileage falls to the around-town mileage, traveling @85mph. That's @23-24mpg. I'm surprised that higher speeds decrease mileage so much. I assume aero, or tire hysteresis, or ? My '20 GLE450, in the same driving, got 30+. My foot wasn't as heavy with it....
I plan on 400 miles per tank and seem to get 420-430 without worry.

I seem to have gained a couple of mpg as I reached 6,000 miles, so I'm expecting better.

We just took our 450 on a beach trip recently as well and it did great. Plenty of room for both the dog and our valuables and the back seat space was very helpful when transporting our friends (one who’s very tall) to and from dinner.

No need to clarify. It was as clear as can be - you already have 53 and were replying to post regarding 63.

It was clear, but 53 comparisons aren't Verboten.

GLE350
3,500 miles in on a summer road trip with another 2,000 miles to go. Florida to Mass, to Michigan, to Texas and then back to Florida next week. Fun stops in between!

2021 GLE350 has been flawless. I have been getting up to 28 mpg driving at 70 mph. Most of my driving is at 80 or above, so mileage is closer to 25 mpg. Very pleased with mileage and performance.

It is a great interstate cruiser. The hilly country of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas on 2 lane roads with lots of turns is more challenging. A sport sedan would be more fun than the big SUV.

That's why they make 53 withARC to bring down mid/big SUV to sport sedan level and 63 takes it into sport/gt car territory.

Believe it or not, we had 500 miles on the tank with all highway driving!! I’d say we beat the EPA estimates and got 22-24mpg.

That's good news, and enticing for a 63S SUV.
How fast were you driving? Does the mileage fall off over a certain speed?

I would get 500 + if I was willing to wait that long to fill up. Depending on where I am at I will fill up once I am down to a quarter tank because you never know when you are going to get stuck in traffic or for how long. Mileage appears to be better in the 45-60 (26 MPG) range and falls above 70 (23 MPG) .
