This is something that troubles me for a long time and I have searched multiple internet sites and found the answer. The GLE comes with 2 different types of MBUX units (548/549). Long story short is the 549 unit comes with a better graphic card that can handle full-screen navigation in your dashboard as well as allow you to play video files in fullscreen. Put in your VIN number in one of the decoder site eg: https://www.mbdecoder.com/, you will find out what MBUX unit is with your vehicle.
The MBUX 549 comes with one of the packages depends on where you live, for me (In Australia) this comes in a package no one really chooses and the salesperson doesn't even know what is the difference is at the time I am ordering my car.
Thanks for sharing. I tried putting in my VIN and it said "vehicle not found" not sure if that link works for us here in the states as I tried another VIN and it said the same thing. I'll send my sales guy an email and ask him if he send me the build sheet of my vehicle.
I'm just confused as to why it was there before I bought the car but went away a week later after delivery.
Here are the steps to display full screen if your car supports it. Start by clicking the home icon on the left side of your steering wheel and select the "Navigation" option.
Once there, with the touch sensitive pad on that side, scroll up or down until you see "Full Screen". If you see it, then you're golden.
Cheers,

So to confirm, one needs to have Augmented Reality in order to have the full screen navigation like above?

Nope. For sanity check, just tested this on my wife’s ‘21 GLE, which has no HUD, or Distronic + and it worked fine.
Used the procedure I showed a few posts above:
On edit: Found out that wife’s GLE has AR. That may be it.

I do not have the AR package on my 21 GLE 350, built sometime between October 2020 and February 2021, and I can confirm that mine does not give me the option for full screen Navi on the drivers dash. It only gives me the 2 options, the small square map and the previous destinations. Picture attached below. I think it may possibly be a standard feature based on the build date of your GLE.

Perhaps, as our GLE350 was built in June I believe, but… my 53 was built in December 2020, and they both support full screen.

This is exactly what I have. Mine was built in Dec 2020 as a MY2021.
Slightly different topic, regarding the small screen NAV display in the instrument cluster:
I DO have the AR, but I don't think this is related.
The little display "Auto Zooms" as my speed changes. I would like to disable that feature so it maintains the same "zoom" all the time. I use it as a Copilot on unfamiliar roads, to help anticipate the next corner, and an appropriate entry speed.
I know that I can use the menu to enable/disable the Auto Zoom feature on the main center dash display, but I don't know how to make that choice on the little instrument cluster display.
Anybody?

If you have the full screen capability on the dashboard cluster (not main screen), then you can configure auto-zoom on there (as well as north-up, 3D, zoom, etc), and it will replicate these settings when viewing on the smaller display. To get to the settings, click the left touch pad and it will bring up the settings.

Thanks, I'll try that. I don't want full screen in the instrument cluster, so maybe that's why I couldn't find it.
I'll report back.
I just received the below email response from Mercedes.
"Thank you for your email to Mercedes-Benz USA.
However, it may be useful to know, the instrument cluster's full screen navigation requires the the Augmented Reality option. As such, vehicles without this option are unable to use the instrument cluster's full screen navigation feature."
is the aug reality feature the the one with the Head up reflection in the windshield as you drive? if so, how do I look for it when buying a GLE in the specs. Please. Thank you.

It worked - thanks.
I selected Full Screen with the left touchpad, then clicked again and it opened a screen that did as you say, and allowed me to set the zoom I wanted.
I wish I could vary that zoom without drilling down, so I could choose the zoom level depending on the roads I'm driving, but this is better than the Auto Zoom.

I don't agree with their response. I can do full screen nav in instrument cluster. Although I ordered AR it was dropped during production.
That explains why you can do it. That is the only requirement.
It's also required for AR nav to work, which is why optioning that feature gets you 549.
Sometimes cars without AR nav can get 549, meaning you get instrument cluster navigation works.
It's just that optioning AR nav is the sure-fire way to get 549.

some salesmen told me you can't Get option 463 after the fact. it has to be ordered with the vehicle. Any of you guys finding that to be true? And do you have to specifically ask for the 315 rear tires on the staggered wheel selection?

I would contact lawyer as I've been in contact with lawyers and if in fact they did what you said and I believe they have done it to thousands this is open for class action. You cannot Bait and switch is illegal at least in usa it is I'm sure Australian laws are much the same in that regard the 548 comes with Reily px and the 549 Cones with the better Parker 128 SOC YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS AND THE LOSS OF CERTAIN ABILITIES LIKE NO VIDEO IN 548 at all nor full screen navigation in drivers side like they show many people b4 they sold them the cars and many people expected they would get what they paid for but didn't

Is video playing and full-screen driver navigation advertised anywhere though?
I agree it's annoying there are different MBUX units.
