GLE 350 Turbo Blow-Off Valve sound (2020 vs. 2021)
I just have a quick question for the 350-owners. I recently went from a 2020 to a 2021 and have noticed a difference in the way the blow-off valve seems to work. I wanted to find out, if you had similar experiences for 2020s and 2021s.
The 2020 engine made a distinctive whipping/snapping sound when the blow-off valve opened. This happened when, while accelerating, I suddenly had to completely step off the gas. With the turbo (booster) still engaged (or at least pressure still being present), this allows excess and unneeded compressed air to escape through the blow-off valve. I also noted that the Turbo Boost Indicator on the instrument panel (Vehicle==>Engine) worked in 5 psi intervals, i.e. the gauge moved from 0 to 5 to 10 to 15.... in steps, rather than in a constant motion.
The 2021 engine does not make that whipping/snapping sound anymore. When I step off the gas, it does not sound different from a non-turbo engine. Also, the Turbo Boost Indicator on the instrument panel now runs smoothly, showing changing pressures to the tune of 0.1 psi intervals, i.e. it runs in a constant motion and seems to engage earlier with psi's below 5. I am sure that the turbo is working, I can feel it, but something has changed.
I was wondering if I have a correct understanding of what's going on and if any of you can attest to this difference. If you can, let me know your MY and how your turbo seems to work.
Thanks to all!
