plan to order a GLE53

Hello guys! I plan to order a GLE53 SUV and hope to get an idea about the current lead time. Dealers say 3-6 months, does that sound about right?

And does anyone know the dealer which does not charge a mark-up in the San Diego area? Thanks in advance!

I would just shop around. If you don’t mind driving a bit, call every dealership within a 100 or even 200 mile radius and just straight up tell them that you’re interested in placing an order but won’t pay over MSRP. You’ll eventually find one.

You might even have better luck buying a new 2022 that is on a lot right now.

Your time from order to delivery will depend a lot on the Dealers allocation slots and the number of orders in front of you. If you order today with a Dealer that has an allocated order in process for an unsold vehicle that would result in the quickest delivery. The Dealer can then change an order that hasn’t locked to your configuration. Then there is the lower probability of finding a Dealer with such an order that will sell for MSRP!
So in order of fastest Delivery:
1. Situation above
2. Open Allocation not used
3. First in line for the next allocation
4. Second in line for next allocation, etc.
To complicate this the large volume Dealer will get more frequent new allocations than a smaller one.
In summary, your ability to find an MSRP deal might be best if you are willing to wait longer or search in a broader market area.

Hello, new here and considering ordering as well. How far out do orders get locked? Would dealer September/October allocation already be locked at this point?

This, right on the money.

September builds, unless very late in the month are likely going to be locked in. If you can find an October allocation it is likely still configurable.

Thank you for all the info. Things are getting more complicated than I thought. One strange thing is that I found only a few 53 SUV on the lot, but there are hundreds of 53 Coupe out there(nationwide). Is SUV too popular?

Right on both counts.
Be careful when placing your order, because the time from placing the order to having it Locked, can be anywhere from almost immediate, to several weeks. Try to get all your "wants" into your initial order, in case yours gets Locked before you add all your items.
i.e. Don't consider it a "placeholder."

In my anecdotal experience, the Coupe is actually much more popular. Our dealership receives about 4x as many Coupe allocations as we do SUVs.
I haven't seen an available SUV 53 in about a year but we often have a 53 Coupe on the floor.

Got it, thanks. Pretty much know what I want. Just need to find a timely allocation I can still modify.

Do you mean they are likely to take order MSRP? Any salesman you recommend? Thanks!

Don't know of any dealers in your area so not much help. Just wanted to chime in and say, you are making a great decision. I love my AMG GLE53. Had her for 8 months and loving it.

2020 GLE 580
I had the same issue, ended up looking more into the 580's and realized it was the better route for me. More power, smoother ride and not as high of a markup as the 53's and 63's. If you haven't considered it yet, I would look into the 580's. Had mine a few months now and loving it! Enjoy the extra power over the 53 and smoother daily!

I wonder if your V8 doesn't get better fuel economy than my 53's 6.
My mileage falls off above 70mph, which seems to be aero from the fat tires. 8 to 10 miles per gallon less than my 2020 450.
A steady 80 with a 450 yielded about 30 to 32 MPG, where are the 53 gets about 21.
Can you compare your mileage with mine?

2020 GLE 580
My wife and I both work from home so our 580 hasn't really seen any highway driving, just around town. We keep it in sport most of the time so probably only getting 18-19 mpg. We have our first roadtrip with it this Thanksgiving so also curious to see highway mpg. Our other vechicle is a newer Suburban so I'm kind of use to low mpg. I will say, the 580 felt a bit quicker than the 450 and 53 when we test drove all the GLE lineup. I think the 580 is rated at 21 combined mpg.
