The mrs curbed 3/4 of the GLE 350 wheels. I'm thinking of doing some quick DIY repair as I know this will just keep happening. The plan is to do some quick sanding/painting/clearcoat. I have an HPLV sprayer but have never done any wheel work. Does anyone know what paint to use or the paint code? I have the wheel in the attached photo (not my car). The damage is around the edge at the silver portion. Thanks!
Those wheels are machine finished, there is no paint code. Its bare aluminum diamond cut and then clearcoated. You could easily make this worse, I would just leave them or have them repaired properly.
I repaired a spot on mine with a Dremel starting with a fine grinding wheel and then a fine sandpaper drum. You need to seal it with something or the surface will oxidize and attract dirt. I’ve seen numerous posts that you can get it done professionally for around $100. I would ask your Dealer Service Department for a recommendation.
My wife did similar recently. Your rims appear to be the standard AMG package (without Night Package), so the inset color is light grey. The rim repair places really are not that expensive and do a great job..
How do they hit the curbs? I will never know....!
Oh, a new rim is like $1,700 bucks retail so a fix goes along way!
If I were you don't repair them yet. When you are set to get new tires get a wider tire that will have the same bulge as the standard 20" setup and you will have less issues with your wife curbing those AMG rims. Also those rims are machine finished so unless you have proper tools better just take it to a wheel repair and get it done properly.
