MB Driver Assistance Package vs Volvo Pilot Assist

Has anyone compared MB’s autonomous driving in the GLE’s driver assistance package to Volvo’s Pilot Assist. Curious if the MB is more capable?

Thanks

GLE 350 de
Yes, I drove a 2018 Volvo V90 CC before my current 2021 GLE 350 de. The Volvo system may have been improved since, but comparing these two models Mercedes assistance is much better. The Volvo had trouble looking ahead in traffic, it felt like it only looked at the car immediately in front of you, which lead to accelerate-brake-accelerate-brake. Mercedes is much smoother. The Volvo was also sometimes spooked by steel railing on bridges etc, probably a radar thing.

I don't like Volvos and therefore would never own one. MB is a huge company compared to Volvo so it only makes sense their technology is better for that reason alone. MB has just the right mix of driver's assistance to me. Anything more would be features I wouldn't use anyways most likely.

I have no experience with Volvo's system, but to @JanM point, the Mercedes system often doesn't get the praise it deserves. What they describe happens with most adaptive cruise control systems, because they only use the front facing radar and therefore can only see the car right in front. I've described it in the past as these systems adapt to the poor driving style of the person driving the car in front of you. If they don't pay attention and slow down last minute, then your car ends up doing the same. Mercedes' system doesn't just use the radar. It also uses the stereo camera in the windshield to look ahead and the adjacent lanes to see if traffic is slowing down and then slows down more like a human does when we see traffic ahead slowing down. In addition MB's system also factors in live traffic. If you are approaching the beginning of congestion it will start slowing down ahead of time and not keep going at the set speed until the last minute and then do a panic stop like other ACC systems do. I've said before, the MB system drives much more naturally, whereas many other systems drive like a robot or a really bad driver.

I had an S90 with Pilot Assist. The MB system operates more smoothly. Plus the MB system will change lanes for you. If you don't have a firm grip on the Volvo steering wheel it will ping at you to steer or just shut the system down. Very annoying.
