Why? Why cover it? It will get stained no matter what you do. If you put a cover on it it will mark the leather overtime with the ridges behind the steering wheel cover (trust me I tried). The best thing is to keep wiping it down after a few days or every week. If you are truly OCD wear cotton gloves but it will just be weird. I have seen old asian folks driving a MB and they wear gloves and I just cringed over it.

been using micro fibers on MB text since 2010. ZERO issues. Just do not scrub too hard and to fast. Gentle wipe with water or your favorite interior vinyl cleaner will do the trick.

Leather steering wheels last forever, just keep them clean.

They wear them for sun protection. Their preference is to not have to put on chemical sunscreen for a short drive to the grocery store.

I am not saying it is guaranteed to have issues but the owner's manual clearly against it so I am just putting it out there really.

Maybe the concern is gravel picked up by a dropped microfiber towel. They're good at applying abrasives, as well as cleaning.🙁

That could be it or maybe if the cloth was used to clean/wipe something else then used to wipe mbtex? Only MB knows....

For this application they are fine, just again use good ones.

FWIW I just cleaned the leather with MF scrub ninja pads and used leather protectant with a MF applicator and wiped the excess off with a MF towel. Looks great...

I spread it in with the MF applicator, let it sit for 15 minutes or so and then buff off the excess.

Microfiber with any all-purpose cleaner will work. As long as you give a a nice wipe at least once a month or every other car wash, it will last for years and not have gunk buildup.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Leather conditioner would give it a nice shine though (although not everyone wants that) the disadvantage with leather conditioners would be that it will squeak and cause shivers (shivers like nails on chalkboard) if wearing jeans or similar types of clothing for example.

I don't use conditioners on the steering wheel, personally because I dont want it to feel gummy or sticky...but goof conditioners shouldnt cause those issues when wearing jeans...

I used that Sonax Leather Foam, I'm not a fan. Try Koch Chemies leather cleaner and conditioner, the Pol Star mentioned above and Leather Star conditioner.
