Quote: Hey all,

I'm having same issue and I'm seeking advices. I'm so disappointed ... I was driving last night and see the engine light on. The car drives fine so I took the car to dealer this morning and get it diagnosed. The following is what I got:

CUSTOMER STATES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON DASH - VERIFIED CONCERN - FOUND FAULT CODES P219E77(CYLINDER 3 MIXTUER FORMATION IS IRREGULAR) AND P1CE577 ADND P1CEF85 - PROCESSED FAULT CODES - PERFORMED LEAKAGE TEST - FOUND LEAKING THROUGH EXHAUST VALVES IN CYLINDER 3 - COMMON ISSUE FOR EXHAUST VALVE SEATS TO WEAR CAUSING IMPROPER SEAL - RECOMMEND CYLINDER HEAD - KNOWN ISUEE WITH 260 AND 264 MOTORS

and they quoted me for $13000+ for this fix. I purchased this 2021 GLE 350 4 MATIC about 3.5 years ago but it has 64k miles on it. Therefore the dealer told me it's out of warranty. I'm so disappointed with what happened, seeking advice from the forum.

Thanks everyone!
Options are:
1. pay the dealer $13,000 and drive it as long as you can, or sell it immediately after repair.
2. pay an indy less than the dealer for the same job and drive it as long as you can, or sell it immediately after repair.
3. sell it in its current condition for somewhere around $10k.

Is it not covered by the same extended warranty that they provided to our 2019 GLC300? (Which is still alive, no problems at this time.)

For some reason, Mercedes did not include the GLE in this extended warranty.

MB 4-bangers are un-ownable outside of warranty.

MB V8s of the past two generations are un-ownable out of warranty for several reasons.

M256 doesn’t seem to have shown its dark side yet. Let’s stay tuned.

The problem with the M256 so far seems to be a disintegrating harness.

Good point, and worth checking before warranty end. I had an inspection done at 45 months and the plug wires were replaced.

My thought is that it's the German "everything recyclable" mantra that led to organic wire sheaths.

The engine itself is a massive departure from the 4 cyl. I don't think we've seen any reports of 6cyl problems.

That "organic" wire insulation has been a problem for years. Not just a Mercedes problem. Rodents love to eat those wires. My father had a BMW that required a new engine harness after mice got to it.

It is way better than some manufacturers that used soy in their cars. non luxury brand like Mazda to name one.

Thank you for the suggestions, how do I do that? I called MB and created a case but I see some other posts online saying that it would be best to have the dealership service manager to file a case with MBUSA.

Any suggestions?

Go through dealership and request for good will they will more likely to consider it especially if the car has been serviced at the dealership.

CPO also comes with a CPO warranty (it is not quite like new car warranty with lots of limitations but the big items like engine and transmission is usually included), and along with an inspection, hundreds of items but the truth is, not a lot of dealerships actually follow this checklist.

engine head replacementr
I have GLE350 2022 model, I had same issue, with check engine light, it was around 50, 000 miles ( 50300 to be exact), first I got fuel pump recall campaign completed, I still had check engine light. merc service center asked to pay for diagnostic, of course needed cylinder head replacement. I requested for help from Mercedes Benz for help, they declined. It cost $8500.00. went to pick vehicle up . as soon as I trned the vehicle. same engine light was still on. I gave they keys back. mechanic checked and he said he did not find anything wrong and cleared the light. I hardly drove 50 miles and light came back on again. I called the service center. Now mechanic is saying that fuel dignostic module may need to be replaced... an expense of another $ 500. what should I do ?
I know that there is recall on GLA, B and C for cylinder head but not for GLE. anyone aware of any class action lawsuits for engine head in GLE 350 ?

I will appreciate any help and suggestion

Quote: Hi Everyone,

Need some help/advice here and hopefully no one had the same experience. I have had check engine light come on about 10 days ago. Car was running just fine and didnt think anything of it. Until this past weekend as I was slowing down at the light, check engine light started blinking and car started shaking. Took it to Midas for them to read the codes and tell me whats going on since dealer couldnt get me in for 5 days. In turns out that it were some old codes from misfire, but also told me that those codes had to do something with Cylinder issue that Mercedes has been having issues with. Codes were clear and car ran fine for 3 days before codes came back up on Monday. I took the car to dealer on Tuesday and finally heard today with the quote of $15,000 to replace one of the cylinder heads since its leaking. My car is GLE 350, year 2022 and it has 59,500 miles on it.

I am speechless that they are even asking for money to fix an issue that is know for many models with the same engine (see attachment) . I am not getting it fixed or paying 15,000 to fix the engine on the 2 year old car. I will be fighting them.

Anyone had similar issues? Any suggestions?

UPDATE:
Mercedes USA provided parts for free under goodwill and dealer has given me a discount on the labor per hour, so out of the door I was at $3400.
My advice just be patient (took the 2 weeks to get the approval) and keep it cool. Because they can always play "out of warranty card".

2021 Cylinder head and rocker arm replacement
I have a 2021 GLE 350 4Matic (48,888 miles) that I purchased used in July 2023. Driving down the road it started making a noise that sounded like it was a diesel. We had it towed to the dealership and were told they need to replace a cylinder head and rocker arm. If this doesn't fix the problem they will replace the engine. The rocker arm had to be ordered and shipped from Germany and will take 3-4 weeks to arrive. Just for the record, I am not knowledgeable in car mechanics at all so I came to this board for information and advice from those of you who understand what is going on with the GLE. I have learned from reading this board that this is a common issue with the GLE.

Before they even started work on my GLE, we were told just labor to take it apart and put it back together would be about $10,000. Fortunately, we are still covered by warranty, but barely - about 1100 miles or 3 months.

My questions are for those of you who are familiar with this problem:
--What has been your experience with reliability after the repair is done?
--Will this happen to other cylinder heads?
--If the engine is replaced, is the new engine prone to have the same issues?
--Did you keep your GLE after having it fixed or immediately get rid of it?

I would appreciate any suggestions or advice you may have for me. When I purchased my GLE, I planned to drive it for a long time. At this point I am afraid to drive it without a warranty or to trust it to leave town. If this were to happen again, we would no longer be covered under warranty.

Extended warranites are available for purchase or trade it in for the 450.
