Battery….have you ever wondered?…
So…starter battery showed “weak”… as the car was in for the transmission module recall….”routine inspection “
Advisor gives me the news…$700…replacement. I think.. how hard can this be?… Researched and found the process needs full removal of drivers seat, door sill plates, vertical side trim, plastic plates, HVAC trim etc.
Wondering what senior Mercedes design engineer signed off on such a stupid design for a common replacement part? I went with OEM dealer replacement, because I couldn’t imagine the local battery shop tearing my car apart successfully and back together. (Done with rant)… Just thinking……anyone else?

The battery in my G550 is fortunately accessible under the floor in the cargo area. It requires popping off 4 plastic covers, removing 4 T40 bolts, and prying up the cover. Still, when I took delivery of the truck, the sales guy refused to tell me where it is (maybe he didn't know, but he didn't offer to ask). When I had to replace it a year ago, it took me only 30 minutes and a new $240 battery. But I agree -- most engineers never use the products they design.

Air compressor on my 63S started groaning and needed replacement under warranty.
All back together, but now it's showing traffic sign, adaptive headlight, active brake assist, and lane keeping assist warnings. Love my GLE, but **sigh**.
- left wheel,
- left liner,
- lower engine panel,
- right wheel liner,
- front star emblem cover,
- front bumper assembly, and
- low circuit cooler (including coolant)

Unbelievable!…. And yet MB thinks all is ok.. (even under warranty) Probably 5-6 hours of $150 /hr labor charged back to “the house “…
but it’s in the overall cost of ownership….
still think some “smart engineering “ is called for!
