Leather vs MB-TEX or Artico

Hi,

We are in the market for a new 2024 GLE 450. We usually keep our cars for a long time (10 years). I am concerned about the durability of the synthetic leather MB uses. The dealership is telling us the MB-TEX (artico) is more durable than natural leather. I would appreciate if there is any opinion on that?

Thanks

Had Artico on my previous car, a 2014 ML, after 9 years and 120.000miles the ''leather'' looked like new. If durability is what you are looking for, definitely go for Artico.

Had MB-TEX on my 2012 C Class and had to replace the bottom seat cushion on the driver side as it had ripped in multiple places. The Florida heat did not help.

I've had much more durability with leather on Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volvo.

thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Just to make sure you had synthetic leather (Artico, MB-Tex) and it was durable?

MB Tex failed on a 450 we had in less than two years. Dealer replaced it under warranty though. That being said the exclusive nappa stitching threads came out on our 63 but they never "cracked" like the MB Tex did. MB Tex made us sweat BTW. The leather has not but we also went for the acoustic glass package on that vehicle

Exactly, Artico leather, beige. No sign of wear in 10 years. I don't know how newer version of synthetic leather behave, but that 2014 ML interior was bulletproof.

2023 GLE63S - Edition 55
My older ML350 had MB-Tex and it was perfect for 5 years. I had the same seats on my 2020 GLE450 and the seats had several cracks after about 2 years. All repaired under warranty but it made me lose faith in the new MB-Tex. My current GLE63 has real leather and so far, no issues.
