Just picked up my 580 yesterday and the salesman didn't know where this was located, or if the car even had one. It's the place you put the SmartKey to start the car if the fob's battery has died. It's a flat surface with a key logo embossed on it. Thanks for any tips.

Check the very front of the center storage console. On my 450 there is an indented area to place the key in.
These aren't the same model cars but it at least gives you an idea of where to place the key and how it works. I think the nfc area will have a little embossed icon of some sort indicating the key placement.
Thanks, GregW. For the benefit of others who may someday have this problem, I took a photo (below). There's a little sort of cradle for the fob to sit in (at the top of the photo, nearest the front of the car). You can just barely make out the NFC logo in the cutout.

I am surprised that the salesman at the dealership was not trained and knowledgable to show customers all of the features of the vehicles and how they operate. Not only for the purpose of marketing the vehicles in making a sell but even more so to assist new owners in their delivery orientation.
