Liftgate rattle - easy fix

When I would drive rough roads or hit a bump, the rear liftgate on my 2024 GLE would rattle. Not a big deal, but annoying.

There is an easy DIY fix. The liftgate has "ears" on both sides that engage with bumpstops inside the doorframe.

Use a T30 to loosen the retaining screws (you don't need to remove them), and extend the ears. The ears are notched, so you can feel how far you are extending them and make sure both sides match. Extending it three notches solved my problem. It took all of two minutes.

This is good engineering. Thank you, Mercedes!

This worked for me - 2025 GLE450 - My ears were not even touching the bump-stops. I was having really bad rattling and creaking. I applied tape to the bump-stops and then paint on the end of the ears and closed the lift-gate. No paint was transferring. So I extended them 6/7 clicks until I had paint transfer thus guaranteeing contact. Now the rattling is gone. Thanks OP!
