OEM TRAILER ELECTRONICS 2022 GLE450

Hello,

I just ordered an OEM trailer hitch and I was wondering what needs to be done electronics wise coding etc. after installation for a V167, W167 2022 GLE450? Also any installation tips would be greatly appreciated. I am very fearful of causing issues in the electrical system of the vehicle.

I'm not sure if cars without factory hitch have the correct rear SAM now. It used to be that you had to install the SAM and program it, then the SAM became standard but still required programming. It then allows trailer functions like lights out monitoring and towing shift patterns.
I'm not sure what the current situation is.
Hope you don't have to run one of those E-Trailer adapters, which are pretty substandard.

Seems to me there was a thread on here that said that the trailer hitch could not be installed properly after the fact. It needs to be factory installed in order to have the correct attachment points. Is your dealer going to install it?

I have reached out to the dealer to see what the install options are due to me buying it online. Hopefully its not big issue. I do think I could install the hitch but the electronics and the computer are intimidating.

It was Verboten with the arrival of the 167 chassis.
Factory hitch SUVs had internal reinforcements that were part of the 164/166 $2700 kit (including labor), compared to the $550 OE hitch option - same parts but you had to dismantle the rear to install the reinforcements.

I don't know if it has changed, but beware.
Some aftermarket hitches were simply sheet-metal-screwed into the bodywork. Not for towing.

The picture does look like a factory unit, but it may still be lacking the chassis reinforcements.
@dmondrick Is there a claimed tow rating for this, or is it only for bike racks?
