2026 BMW 550e X DRIVE, 2024 GLE 450e SUV
First BMW ever
For the past 35 years I’ve had only Mercedes. I currently have a 2021 AMG GLE 53 coupe and a 2024 GLE 450e SUV. The 24 hybrid is very practical for our needs. I wanted a normal hybrid sedan now and not another V167 variety. I am getting $55K for my AMG and a new 2026 BMW 550e X Drive is costing me $22.8K loaded. The dealer gave me $1K off the window sticker and I’m also getting $4K discount for being a veteran directly from BMW. I would have gotten it for a little less if I took a 25 but because I’m buying I wanted the 26. I’m getting the car in 10 days. I hope that I won’t be disappointed.

Going fron GLE 53 to a 550e would it be enough fun?

Wait so I looked it up. It actually does make sense not full fledged m5 but still a very healthy 483 horsepower. Heavy though weighs almost 5000 lbs? It says 4894 (edmunds) lbs. Like the 429 horsepower GLE 53 (5280, edmunds) although lower centre of gravity going suv to sedan.

Congrats on the 5er. I like most things about BMWs except the cooling systems which commonly have multiple near-simultaneous component failures which risk immediate overheating (rapid total loss of coolant), around 100k miles. No worries during the warranty period, but if you own long term, caveat emptor.
iDrive and ZFH8P tuning are best in class. Interior is good, not quite as good as MB or Porsche.
Handling on base models is adequate. I don’t care for for full-on M ride/handling. M-lite I have driven but not often enough to comment. Air suspension is a must - did you order it? I didn’t see it listed as an option.

Congrats on the new 550e, sounds like you made a solid choice especially with that kind of pricing and the veteran discount stacked in. The B58 hybrid setup in the 550e is pretty sophisticated, with a combined system output that's real strong for daily driving and even spirited runs, and the xDrive will make sure you can put it down cleanly.

Nice. I like BMWs choice to pair the straight six with the PHEV. Nice to see the BMW has backed away from the Buc-ee Beaver grill on the 5 series too.

The new 5 series is a different kind of "ugly" I guess even without the grille, at least compared to the W214, it is not as good looking, it grew on me though, sort of. As long as OP likes it, all it matters.

I use it at Home Depot, Lowe's and more for a permanent discount.
I think it is/will be required for access to the IRS and other Fed sites as well.
