Tailgate closure

Other than the key fob, when your inside the vehicle (2020 gle 350), is there a way to close the tailgate? The button on the door panel will open it, but it doesn’t seem to close it?

I have a 2024 GLE 450. Just went out to the garage to try it and can open and close the liftgate with the switch on the lower door panel. Motor was running and you have to hold the switch while the liftgate is moving.

Nothing works with the power off. Windows, display, radio, NAV included.
However you can push the start button with foot off the brake ("position 1") which wakes everything up, and the door switch works too.

However the rear lid works with the buttons right there, and the key fob.

This!

Thing is if MB kept all the power on to the switches, it will drain the battery slowly, not ideal no point either. As mentioned, OP you don't like to close it from the button on the tailgate or just foot swipe? not sure why not just use the key fob as well, that is a convenient way to close it.

Does the foot swipe blood sacrifice on the trailer hitch close the liftgate or just open it?

Blood is a requirement. Nothing major, but some.

Sometimes when I get in the car and do nothing, the blower motor comes on. Not all the time. The center screen comes on with some stuff on the bottom of it. If the car is on the door switch works to open or close the hatch as others have said. I gave up trying to make the foot swipe work. Maybe once every 30+ tries. BUT twice it came down on my head while I was loading groceries and standing with my feet under the bumper. That hurts.

If you don't plan on using the swipe foot feature, you can disable via third party coding or turn off the key (double press lock button on the key, disables keyless go function) so it doesn't detect key and it won't swing down when you hit the sensor. Just need to re-enable key again with any press of the key so you can use keyless go again.
