Tailgate Closing Chime

I posted earlier about the lack of the seatbelt warning chime on my new to me 2026 GLE. Yesterday I noticed that the chime warning you get that the tailgate is closing also doesn't work. Now if they had only disabled the auto start stop....sigh.

The seatbelt chime might be played by the "warning" speaker, this is the same speaker that plays sounds like blind spot assist, pre-collision warning and "Don't forget your key", etc. it is on the driver side above the pedals but the fact that you also have a different speaker (the tailgate one not working), I am thinking both are caused by a fuse issue and not actually a faulty speaker?

I just got my car a few days ago and in MBUX settings I saw an option to disable warnings for the back of the car, I only glanced at it but you may try finding it and see if the rear alerts are enabled.

Do you mind posting a picture? I am not aware of this option, thanks.

I went through all the menus looking for it and the only thing I could find is the occupant protection warnings for the back seat so you don't inadvertently leave your kid or something in the car. Sorry not sure if this would solve seat belt warnings not going off but worth a try.

Google gave some tips but none worked. I turned on the acoustic lock. All that did was beep the horn when I pressed LOCK on the tailgate. However I when was cleaning some schmutz off the tailgate, I had to manually stop it mid air. As I held it try to make it stop where I wanted to, the chime sounded for about a second. When I closed it with a button, no sound.
I looked on YouTube and came across a video about turning off the seatbelt warning. They coded it off. I suppose I'll mention it to the dealer next time I'll be near them.

Maybe they coded it off like you mentioned as well ( the previous owner.)

The stop button behaved as designed. It beeps to signal that you have set a new opening height. The next time you open it, it will go to the new set point and stop.

One way to find out how things work is to go to the owners manual on MBUX, where you can enter your search term and it will show associated topic, many with links to the actual settings.
You can also bookmark topics for future reference.
