Climate Control Problems

I have a brand new GLE 53 and I'm having a couple of issues with the AC. I started the car a couple of days ago and it was blowing hot air, I got the AC to turn on but had to set it at the lowest temp. When I moved it up a degree it started blowing hot air again. I took it to the dealer and by then it seemed to be working ok and they couldn't find anything wrong. Yesterday it was blowing hot air out of the driver side vents and super cold air out of the passenger vents. I went to check it again this morning and it was just blowing hot air again unless I put the temp back down to low and then the AC would come back on. An hour later it seems fine again. The SA even told me they have been seeing a ton of issues with GLE's AC systems. Hoping someone has some kind of similar experience and can shed some light on what may be going on.

My 26 GLE53 has done the same thing 3 times now. Unfortunately, it is intermittent and I have not noticed any rhyme or reason for it. An MB tip I read is to take it off of auto and use cool instead. I am vested in this for sure.

Same issue

22’ GLE450 … have had the same intermittent hot air from AC ports. Only way to override is scroll temp down to max/LO cool setting.Resolves on its own therafter on shut downs .Had service look at twice so far. First time they replaced a temp sensor in roof area by center controls. Made no difference.. Symptoms occurred again therafter. Another trip to dealer. Full AC assessment. Could not find issue.
Suggested same routine…” Don’t use auto setting… just ac and adjust fan and temp setting manually”. Not very assuring!
Thinking that reports of these AC systems being a “ weak link” may continue to have merit. MB however doesn’t seem to be willing to assume any responsibility. Just slipped out of warranty… not looking forward to a post warranty multi $k”s repair possibility. Shakes the confidence.

I have a 2024 GLE450e and occasionally the climate system goes wonky, usually a high fan speed and very little cooling. Dealer couldn’t find anything wrong. What I found works is to: Long press (climate MENU button). This resets the climate control system to automatic/default settings. It includes:
  • Turning AUTO mode back on
  • Resetting fan speed and airflow distribution
  • Returning temperature zones to a standard 72 degrees
  • Clearing manual overrides for passenger and rear seats (if you have 4 climate zones)
This straightens everything out and then you can adjust the temperature etc.
I know we have different cars but you may want to try that next time it happens.

You press “menu” and hold it until it resets. It’s the second button going left to right. The first one is the driver temperature.

You might want to read my old thread here:

This stuck actuator occured after winter. This is only an assumption but I think these blend door actuators get stuck with the heater use in winter and then once spring comes around, you get these issues. Are many of you from places with proper winters?

Thanks for the suggestions. I had an appointment to take it back in this morning and cancelled it because the ac seems to be working fine again and they aren't going to be able to find anything. I'm going to have to wait and see if it happens again and try to get to the dealership while it's still acting up. Either way I will try to do the reset. Thank you.

How do you know how long to hold it? Is there any kind of alert or message to confirm the reset?

You hold it down until the temperature resets to 72, the system switches to auto, and the ‘sync’ is reactivated. If your settings already reflect that change something so you can tell it’s reset. On mine, the fan is always on high when it acts up so I can also tell by the fan noise.

Just like to add that I normally set my temp to 72F so I'll switch it to 71 and then hold it until the reset shows 72F that way I know for sure it worked.

The problem with my AC resurfaced today. Start the car and it's blowing hot air. I drove straight to the dealership to prove I'm not stupid or crazy and **** you not as soon as my tires hit the service drive cold air starts blowing out of the vents.

Had similar weirdness and they swapped a stepper motor today. Also mostly hot air in the back with minimal cold air up front.

From dealer:
ROAD TESTED VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED A/C NOT BLOWING OUT OF CENTER VENTS.
CONNECTED BATTERY CHARGER AND PERFORMED A SHORT TEST. FOUND FAULT FOR BLEND AIR
STEPPER MOTOR M2/5. LOOKED AT ACTUAL VALES AND FOUND MOTOR NOT OPERATING. TESTED
WIRING FOR POWER AND GROUND, FOUND BATTERY VOLTAGE AND GOOD GROUND
CONNECTION. REPLACED STEPPER MOTOR M2/5, PERFORMED TEACH IN AND NORMALIZED ALL
STEPPER MOTORS. CLEARED ALL FAULTS AND ROAD TESTED THE VEHICLE

I was able to get this on video so hopefully the dealer will now at least check for problems. 100 degree air coming out of the vents with the system set at 60.

There was a faulty temperature sensor inside the console with the map lights, they replaced the entire console. Fingers crossed this takes care of it.

That repair did not solve my same issue.
good luck, perhaps yours will correct the problem.

You never know, I'm holding my breath. It shouldn't take long to figure out.

It was 72F yesterday and my wife said she had to set the AC to 60F to keep from sweating. Not sure what the hell is going on, but looks like we need another trip to the dealer. Same today but its almost 80F OAT which is nothing! I had her hold the menu button down for 10 seconds to reset the system. Not sure that helped but it for sure reset the system to 72.

She is royally pissed and this is probably the end of her Mercedes journey. Hopefully we can get can a decent trade value and try something else.
